That's where you are mistaken as Braun is a far better penalty killer than Hagg right now. Have you already forgotten how bad they were last year? PK killed them. He's also a leader in the dressing room. So if his plus goes up throughout the year after a bad start will that not change your argument?
You 'arent trying to compare last years penalty kill to this years are you? Different system different roles different all around.

Killing penalties doesn't show up in the stats only for the unit which is a million times better than last season. 11th is a drastic improvement. Leadership on a young team is also invaluable. So you are saying that the Flyers should have stayed with last years pk group? What if injuries hit who plays then?
No im saying the flyers should've never traded for Braun and used Hagg as a 6th dman instead., Ive always been saying it.

18/19 Flyers at 78.4% on the PK. This year is 84.7% Assuming same number of short handed opportunities, the math says Flyers will give up 15 fewer goals short handed than they did last year. AWAZ calculates 7 goals attributable to goalie play, so 8 would be attributed to PK skaters.

4 of the 8 are attributed to Hayes and Raffl and 3 are attributed to Couts and Laughton/Lindblom and 1 is attributed Prov and Nisky. So what does Braun really bring to the party?

Sure all of that helps but if the staff was as confident with Hagg as you are why make the moves that they did? Vigneault flat out said he decided to take the Philly job because of those dmen signings. Is he now an idiot? And you are willing to risk D depth throughout the season and playoffs over a 2nd and 3rd? Come on let's be serious here this trade helped in multiple ways

So who is your 7th then that would be significantly better than Braun? I also look at Hagg as a downgrade at this point over Braun should we be making the D worse or better overall?

Wow so this isn't a team sport anymore? You realize even one bad link can hurt you right? This obviously isn't the case or we would have a worse pk out there this season. How about we just play 5 dmen since depth doesn't matter they'd all be good.. Haha!

The others guys are progressing better than Hagg but im not comparing them to Hagg. im comparing Braun and there is nothing i see that a 32 year old Braun does batter than a 25 year old Hagg and we didn't have to trade a 2nd and 3rd for Hagg. Also you always say it takes defensemn longer to develop why doesn't that apply in Haggs case?

Because to my eyes Hagg's not getting any better. The Hagg that plays the Avs tomorrow will be the exact same Hagg that suited up for their game against San Jose on October 4th, 2017. He's fine. He plays a little physical, he's a good shot blocker. He's fine. It's good that he's been consistent and hasn't had down months/years like some of the other guys. But there's no flashes where I think "wow, Hagg was a monster there".

Hagg and Braun are very similar players to me. They're both, fine. But Braun is a veteran and he's right handed (which apparently is a big deal based on what coaches/players say). He can play with one of the young, offensive guys that does have a high ceiling (and has had "monster" moments) and be a calming presence on the pair. I think we can all agree that Provorov looks like a new guy out there this year. With a veteran, RHD playing him. If it makes a difference for Provorov, I think it makes a difference to other guys. Obviously Niskanen is better than Braun, but I think veteran+RH has value.

Yeah I forgot that he's a right shot it definitely helps to have them. There are various reasons why the team is playing better and this is one of them. Everyone has a role and does it well. It's not all about plus minus and goals just do your part.I think they are feeling comfortable as a team keep the train rolling.

Him being a right handed shot certainly hasn't added anything as Braun is still minus 11 with 0 goals and 5 assts in 30 games.

They are feeling comfortable and i hope the train does keep rolling all the way to a cup. i will however say that whether it was Braun or Hagg as the 6th Dman the results would be the same and Hagg didn't cost us a second and third and would not put us in cap hell so we could have some room to make a move or two if injuries set in.

David Kase called up! Kinda odd because AV said they didn't have plans to call anyone up. But that was odd in and of itself because they only had 12/6 healthy with Myers/Konecny out and teams don't typically go on road trips with only 18 healthy skaters.

So lets see if Kase plays tonight. Always thought he was kind of an interesting prospect. Has some offensive pop, though he's struggled a bit with the Phantoms.

I'm not going to debate this one any further. I like Braun being your whipping boy a lot better than when Giroux is :D

This is surprising .I wouldn't mind seeing what Shusko has to offer.

JVR scores first tonight... then promptly skates over to bench and pukes from altitude sickness.

Travelling tonight so will miss the game. Bring home a "W" boys

I like Shushko too. I hope he gets a shot at some point, seems like he's a little ways down the depth chart, but I would be interested to see him.
