What conference that matters has a "split" Championship?

Penn State beat you fair and square late in the season, and the tourney then proved you weren't worthy.

Much like my Husker 2001 team, we had no shitting business being there.

This is a NATIONAL championship. You gotta win your REGION first to even get there.
I'm not sure what you're going on about, but until relatively recently all conferences had split champs

So, if you eliminate ccg's then you have to get rid of divisions. If you get rid of divisions, how do you make the schedules equal without every team playing each other?
They aren't equal now. Minnesota would have got into the championship game with a weaker schedule had they beat Iowa.

But they would have had to eventually play OSU. If divisions are eliminated, that would not have happened

... which means they'd be out here justifying how Clemson, the unbeaten, reigning national champion, doesn’t deserve to play for a national title this year.
If a person thinks the LSU-Bama rematch caused so much it birthed the CFP, the meltdown for the one referenced here would have been twice as bad. Those powers that be would have been praying that one of the three lost this weekend.

I wish we still had the BCS with all three teams winning this weekend. Next week would have been classic.

Nope. Under this writer's scenario, they wouldn't have made the playoff, either.

Oh, the reactions would be priceless.

Winning your conference should mean something.
It does. It just doesn’t, and shouldn’t mean you get to play for the national championship.

Just quit trying to fix what isn’t broken, is my suggestion.

IDK, I think the conference championship games are important to prevent a team from sneaking in with a weak schedule. Take Minnesota this year for example. Say they go undefeated, their wins are PSU, Wisconsin and Iowa. They don't play OSU. Without a CCG they're crowned go-champs, who knows how the tiebreakers play out. So unless there's a round-robin schedule where every team plays each other in every conference you HAVE to have that game at the end to actually decide the champ. Yes, it sometimes results in double games.
That won't even do it sometimes. Example: if you have three one loss teams with Team A beating Team B, Team B beating Team C and Team C beating Team A. Then it goes to some wacko stat like margin of victory, highest rated team, etc.

Winning your conference should mean something. If doing away with the conference championship is what it takes for that to happen then I'm all for it.

As it stand now however, this weekend's games mean almost nothing.

The committee has put emphasis on winning your CCG but like they said it isn't everything. Giving a team an automatic bid into a playoff bc of one game is stupid. The committee has done a great job so far, no point in changing anything to this point

2016 ring a bell?

Penn State won the Big 10. tOSU went to the CFP and got spanked 31-0 by Clemson in the 1st round. You didn't deserve to be there.

Same way they make conference schedules eqal now. You don't.

Just bc Ohio St lost to a better team doesn't mean anything. Notre Dame got spanked. Bama got spanked in the CFP final. Penn St had 2 losses and they beat Ohio ST head to head bc of a blocked FG that was returned for a TD. Like this year...it looks like there are 3 top teams but you need a 4th seed.

Expanding and making conf champions automatic bids isn't helping anything.

A conference championship is a relatively new concept. If there is a split championship, take the highest rated team

Well, it did take the Big 10 a while to get onboard the CCG, but they've been around since 1992.

Seems really fucking simple to me.

Step 1: Win your conference
Step 2: Those assigned the task, decide the best 4 teams of the conference champs

Every year we have 2 to 3 teams that separate themselves (ALWAYS conference champs by the way). And then the dolts of "We need more teams" create some stupidasso argument about some 5th or 6th team to add for some shittard reason.

This article is saying do away with the conference championship games. So, Clemson would win the ACC.
Guess only concern is what happens when 2 teams tie and didn't play each other?
