On another thread, I said that they need to make the conference champion an automatic playoff birth in order to make this weekend worth something.

Here is an article that has the same idea.

Here's how to fix college football's broken postseason

The first weekend of December is here, which means college football is ready to dust off the pointless, redundant relic that is “Conference Championship Weekend.”

Don’t let the sport’s television partners tell you this is a good idea. Being some zombie fan getting fed establishment nonsense is no way to go through life.

Remember, the people who run this sport once claimed the BCS would have to be pulled out of their “cold, dead hands,” which means they'd be out here justifying how Clemson, the unbeaten, reigning national champion, doesn’t deserve to play for a national title this year.

A four-team playoff arrived as a concession, but it’s still the same leadership, so there is more to do. That includes reforming the postseason to replace this waste-of-time weekend with the first round of an eight-team playoff.

Assuming all three undefeateds win this weekend, hell definitely would have been raised had this been the BCS.

Having a conference championship being a autobid would be stupid. If Virginia shocks the world and upsets Clemson, they still wouldn’t belong anywhere near the playoffs
This article is saying do away with the conference championship games. So, Clemson would win the ACC.

Not a fan. People with suggestions like those tend to not be dyhards anyways.

Winning your conference should mean something. If doing away with the conference championship is what it takes for that to happen then I'm all for it.

As it stand now however, this weekend's games mean almost nothing.

Eh, it's not like we don't know who the best team from each conference topically is, anyway. And if there's two top teams (like with LSU and Georgia) they both get in anyway

WTF needs to be fixed?

It is abso-fucking-lute-ly awesome as is.

You wan't to create some shitfuck 8 or 16 team playoff; and you completely ruin the greatness of the week in and week out of college football forever.

That’s why we have a 4 team playoff now. The issue is it’s hard to find a 4th team that actually deserves to be in there also. There is no legitimate reason to expand the playoff and those that bitch about it are just butt hurt.

So in 2015 we would have had Iowa in the playoffs over Michigan State because they played in a weaker division. We need Conference Championship games to help prevent one team from skating through because of a weak schedule. Plus if you don’t have a conference championship game, how do we have a conference champion?

We’ll create polls and let the media decide.

A conference championship is a relatively new concept. If there is a split championship, take the highest rated team

IDK, I think the conference championship games are important to prevent a team from sneaking in with a weak schedule. Take Minnesota this year for example. Say they go undefeated, their wins are PSU, Wisconsin and Iowa. They don't play OSU. Without a CCG they're crowned go-champs, who knows how the tiebreakers play out. So unless there's a round-robin schedule where every team plays each other in every conference you HAVE to have that game at the end to actually decide the champ. Yes, it sometimes results in double games.

But wait...certain posters have said no proposal has opening round games at site of top 4 seeds.

That's way worse than just letting the two play at the end.

What conference that matters has a "split" Championship?

Penn State beat you fair and square late in the season, and the tourney then proved you weren't worthy.

Much like my Husker 2001 team, we had no shitting business being there.

This is a NATIONAL championship. You gotta win your REGION first to even get there.

So, if you eliminate ccg's then you have to get rid of divisions. If you get rid of divisions, how do you make the schedules equal without every team playing each other?

Ask the Big XII and their "One True Champion"... unless it's Two.
