The IDIOCY of the College Football Playoff Rankings

A 6-4 Texas team which has been beaten by L.S.U. (45-38) and Oklahoma (34-27) and T.C.U. (37-27) and Iowa freaking State (23-21) is currently ranked # 19 in the absurd excuse for a college football playoff ranking. Yet 9-1 Boise State is ranked two spots BELOW this 6-4 Texas team - which will almost certainly be 6-5 after next weekend's trip to play AT # 13 ranked and 9-1 Baylor.

Cupcake State plays in the minor leagues. Simple as that.

Im just pissed Minnesota is still at 8 and Iowa is still at 20. Its like they dont even care the game happened. If they dont change it by tomorrow im filing an official complaint. And if they do change it after reading this ill take that as a sign i am now the chair of the committee

Cupcake State caught us a couple of times just right, played well above themselves and won. Congrats. But game in and game out, season in and season out, they simply don't match up to the big boys. But they like to whine and cry about it anyway.

We'd love to be in the PAC, we've tried to get into several "upgrades". If it was as easy as you seem to imply, we'd have done it long ago. You don't seem to understand how exclusive these good ol' boy clubs are.

A close loss to Iowa State doesn't make Texas any worse of a team than they were prior to playing them IMO.

That said, Texas shouldn't have been rated that high...but SOMEONE has to fill out the last 15 spots. And there probably isn't much difference in #15 - #35 truth be told.!

Theres not much difference between 4-30 this year imo. Which is why i dont care how you raml the top 3. Theyre clearly the best teams so use whatever way you want to rank them. However , because theres not much difference between 4 and 30, i think it becomes incumbent on the committee to use results and criteria starting at 4. The "eye test" simply doesnt work this year for those spots because theres so little difference .

My own personal system for ranking teams around OU is pretty simple. I largely ignore the records and judge teams on how I feel we'd have the hardest time beating them. I honestly believe that Alabama (even without Tua), Clemson, Georgia, LSU and Ohio State would all beat OU right now on a neutral field. Maybe others would too but I have my doubts about them. So, in my own system I rank OU at least #6 and that may not change even if someone above us in the CFP poll loses unless it's a really bad loss. I just don't see Oklahoma as a playoff-caliber team right now.

I wouldn't sweat Boise State being ranked ahead of Texas, but still Boise State lost to BYU. BYU has lost to teams such as Toledo & USF and eeked out wins against teams like Liberty. Texas on the other hand has their worst loss to TCU and half their losses to top 10 ranked opponents. If you look at best win then that goes to Texas and their defeat of Kansas State. Boise State's best win was over FSU, the same FSU that just canned Willie Taggart. Then there's the matchup test, if Texas and Boise State played tomorrow Id probably take Texas -6.5 points. (It would be a fun game.)

Texas is much closer to 35/40 than 15, IMO

I think you'd find quite a few bettors willing to take BSU with that line.

To be fair they were #19 before the Iowa State result. They will likely be unranked or barely ranked (at best) when tonight’s rankings are released. We on the other hand lost to a 6-4 BYU team that was playing their third string quarterback, missing their starting tailback and also missing several offensive lineman. Our SOS is in the 80s. We do not deserve to be ranked any higher than the committee has us.
