In truth, have they changed that rule? Sure, they now allow for reviewing PI, but for the minuscule percentage of those calls that are actually overturned, can that really be called change? Refs miss calls; it happens all the time. They also let an awful lot of calls go (notably holding and PI/illegal contact). Human error happens; sometimes you just have to accept it.

Agree.

I understand wanting to get the calls right, but even with replay, there is still controversy.

All of this reviewing calls is also putting the NFL at cross purposes. They supposedly are looking to shorten games...but reviews actually serve to lengthen games...and they keep adding to what's reviewable.

Reviews aren't likely to be going away anytime soon, unfortunately. So, imo, they should limit the amount of time that is allowed for reviews.

Maybe set it at something like 10-15 seconds. If they can't find clear evidence to overturn a call in that time...the call on the field stands.

They have to be honest about reviewing these PI situations or just drop them from review eligibility. There have been numerous missed blatant PIs that haven't been overturned by review, including another one this weekend.

Because he doesn’t make them at a high enough clip to make in an efficient shot.

It is like when you watch a college game and the unskilled big man catches the ball unguarded at the top of the key and he never looks at the rim. He is not looking to shoot. But, in most cases, it isn’t because he doesn’t want to shoot. It is because their coaches have given them the red light.

Then, when they shoot in the gym, they work on that skill, but they don’t get good enough to get the green light in the game.

Ben Simmons works on his 3 point shot. We have all seen videos of him doing it. Maybe he still needs to work more and work harder. But watching him not even glance at the rim just reminds me of the college big man that is told he isn’t allowed to shoot.

Maybe I am wrong. Maybe he is stupidly over concerned about his FG percentage. But I have never come across a player who didn’t want to shoot the ball.

Yeah, that makes a certain amount of sense, especially for college where you have players for a limited amount of time and play 50+ fewer games.

In that setting, letting a guy work on his shot during games can cost you games that you may not be able to afford to lose.

But in the NBA, there are 82 games. So, they can afford to drop a game here and there if it came to that. Heck, Phil used to essentially "sacrifice" a game here and there just to make a bigger point to his team.

I would think that Brown would at least give him the green light to shoot when the game is a blowout one way or the other.

But then, I remember folks questioning his coaching last year, so maybe that's part of the reason?

What a weird couple of draft picks the Sixers had. One guy (Fultz) who apparently forgot how to shoot and another guy in Simmons who won't shoot.

Yeah, it's funny. The NFL keeps trying to "clarify" things and keeps making them more confusing.

Does anyone know what constitutes a catch anymore? lol

Yup 2 ways to go about this since refs were clearly instructed to stick with the calls no matter what.

1) get rid of it completely.

2) treat it like scoring plays/final 2 minutes where only the booth can initiate a review

I understood it better back when everybody claimed it was too confusing. There were rigid, if over-complicated, rules that governed a catch. Now that they rolled those back, there's just more grey area.

Yeah, I don't know if they've been instructed not to overturn calls, but I can see where the replay officials might not want to "show up" the officials on the field.

They need to do something, because the current system isn't working.

And the Raiders are looking to make some noise in the AFC.

I woulda...

but then, i MIGHT just be a li'l biased...:D

I wouldn't have said 11-2. I would have been happy with 9-4 or even 8-5

And realistically there should be no reason for them to lose any of the 6 remaining games in November - they're all teams with losing records.

Start of December is the real test.
