No, in fact, the way Garret twisted Rudolph was to avoid roughing (Garrett landing on top of him), and the swing/spin was not violent either (or any more violent than would have been unavoidable)

The fact that it was so long after the ball was thrown is what makes it roughing the passer.

Technically it's battery

How about not start shit with a guy much larger than you? That all factors in. It's not like Myles just walked up to him and unprovoked ripped his helmet off and hit him with it

That's why he isn't a victim.

It doesn't matter, he was the victim of assault. It happened. Whether he did anything to provoke it is irrelevant.

YOUR ASININE LOGIC:
"You murderer him"-judge
"yeah, but he touched me" -you
"Oh, then cases dismissed"-judge

I feel I established I was having fun with the outrage.

I mean we can argue as to whether a chair and helmet are more similar as to a hammer.

I'm definitely breaking my promise here though to shut up in this thread.

What if his helmet was a hamburger? Then Garrett would have just been sharing.

you are missing the point. Again I am not excusing
So if your opponent decides to rip off your helmet, using TWO hands and clearly twists the neck around (clearly visible on replay) you should not lose your shit? When you are being pushed away by a team-mate (who physically engages you, BTW) and said opponent actually charges you, you should again do nothing?

But apparently it is completely fine when you are completely legally tackled to lose your shit and violently try to rip off the helmet of your opponent (and seriously twisting his neck in the process). The one who clearly lost the plot first is Rudolph. And Rudolph lost it for absolutely no good reason (other than his O-line failing miserably all game long). Garrett lost it for a legitimate reason.
Rudolph's part in creating the incident but what he did happens in most games. The two were also separated and yes Rudolph ran back at him but that in no way warrants Garrett using the helmet was a weapon. That would be like Jason Terry charging Lebron...Terry isnt doing anything to Lebron.

I actually pointed out the opposite in regards to if Mason had suffered an egregious injury or death.

If someone hit Brady with a helmet, they'd be suspended for life. I can't believe some of the responses here. "Barely hit him," Jesus Fucking Christ.

Shit.

If anyone hit Brady with a helmet the entire non Patriot fan world would be rejoicing and half the dumbasses would be calling for Brady to be suspended for being in the way of an angry DL.

Then the cheating accusations would start.

Bunch of keyboard cry babies...It's a "crime" LMAO

I hope Garrett smashes a helmet over your head too...I would honestly laugh
id laugh pretty hard if you have ever had a take, that made some actual sense, and didnt get down right owned for your stance. However, what is amusing, is you never realize it.

while that may be true publicly, league wise, the season may be suspended

What bias lol

The qb twists his head and tried to rip off Garretts helmet well talking shit

Garrett says fuck you and rips off the qb's helmet

He then proceeds to be pushed backwards by 3 pitt players...He swings the helmet as he is being pushed backwards...Go watch the play over, that is exactly how it goes down

Troy Aikmen said Rudolph's hand somehow got stuck on Garrets helmet and he was trying to pull it out.

Damn, 42 pages. I was wondering what kind of stunt the league was going to put into the script to make this game interesting. Good job Goodell.

who the fuck would even consider randolph the instigator or (a) problem in this scenario? anyone acting like a helmet to the head wouldn't hurt.. lets see you volunteer for a ripped athlete to swing down on you full force. if not for the angle of the padding, it would have been a brutal result on an uncalled for attack.

Just rewatched the sequence:

1. The ball is barely out of Rudolph's hands when Garret makes contact for the tackle. Less than a single step.
2. Garret spins Rudolph to avoid a roughing, the spin is NOT egregious. It was pretty much a bear hug bringing Rudoph down.

That takes roughing the passer out of the equation.

3. Mason, in response grabs the back of Garret's helmet and tries to rip it off. One of the replay shots actually shows him trying to rip Garret's helmet off by the back and by grabbing the facemask with the other hand.

4. Garret retaliates, ripping Rudolph's helmet off.

5 De Castro and nr 71 (who already were pulling on Garret while Garret and Rudolph were still on the ground at the moment Rudolph was pulling on the back of Garret's helmet) drag Garret away, with De Castro in fact putting himself in between Garret and Rudolph (it is in this process that Rudolph's helmet actually comes off).

6 Rudolph actually charges at Garret, with Garret being pushed back by De Castro. It is at this point that Garret swings the helmet.

7. Pouncey comes in throwing punches, while De Castro holds Garret, and when Garret ends up on the ground (with De Castro on top of him) actually starts to kick Garret, aiming for Garret's head. If he does not connect it is because Cleveland's nr 50's legs are in the way.

Conclusion:

1. Rudolph initiates the whole thing by grabbing at Garret's helmet (n the back, trying to rip it off) first.

2. Rudolph - when Garret is being pushed away and held/restrained by De Castro, actually charges at Garret (who swings the helmet in response).

3. Pouncey (with Garret being held/restrained by De Castro) actually throws punches and tries to kick Garret in the head.

Result:

Both Garret and Pouncey should be suspended at least for the season, and IMHO Pouncy actually longer than Garret.

Rudolp should also be fined and suspended, arguably for as long as Garret.

BTW - I used the NFL Game Pass replay, with the TV slomos.

1) He was 27' away when the ball left Rudolph's hand, I paced it off this morning. Took Garret 11 seconds to cover that distance. Watch it again.
Rudolph had time to hot box a Pall Mall before he got hit.
