Thanks for the responses to the college questions but I'm trying to figure if there's one rivalry that tops them all.

Your same two questions back to you to answer my friend.

Okay, I'll try to give you my two cents worth back to you again but that will be four cents worth so I'm giving out of money.

The best college football rivalry now might be Alabama/Clemson since they seem to exchange national championships almost every year lately.

I posted this to show that we need playmakers to like the saints have and a decent defense

Ok, here are my top three in no particular order:

Miami v Florida State
Notre Dame v X top opponent ( nationwide hate of Notre Dame)
Auburn v Alabama

Of these three I'm going with, Auburn v. Alabama as the best rivalry .

Also, I go with the College game.

I think the rivalry games have a lot to do with where you live.

Florida vs. Georgia is huge close to home.
Penn State vs. Pitt was huger for PA - now over though

Miami versus Florida or FSU was HUGE but neither Miami or FSU are any good right now.

I am sticking with Army vs. Navy. That is an all timer. Maybe not a big deal because if you weren't in the military you probably don't pay much attention to either or even one of the teams. Being former Navy and not too far from Annapolis it is a big deal to me.

Perhaps I should have asked for the top (add number), because there are so many choices and regional biases.

First of all you surprised me by going with the college game.

How could I have forgotten to include Miami/Florida State because back in the day it was a huge rivalry. You're probably right with the Iron Bowl (Bama vs. The Barn). Bear Bryant once told Shug Jordan "I'll take my 11 and beat your 11 and then I'll take your 11 and beat my 11." He probably could have done just that.

You nailed it because rivalry games have a lot to do with where you live and who you cheer for. Army/Navy has always been a classic and it always will be. As a former Marine I always cheer for Navy. I'll bet you can even remember when the best rivalry in the NFL was Redskins/Cowboys even though I have never understood why Dallas was placed in the NFC East. Heck, I never understood why the Atlanta Braves played in the NL West either during their glory years.

The pageantry and hopeful exuberance that comes with the college game is unmatched in the NFL. Perhaps it's a reminder of my time at school and/or maybe the NFL, in its quest to insure safety and more scoring lost a little something to an old school purest like myself. '

In as much as AU/'Bama goes, it's a blood feud that spans generations like similar in state rivalries throughout the country. Since I only had one choice, and this was the one.

I hear you and you are correct about the entire experience with the college game vs. the NFL.

A question for you and all of our Redskin buddies without having to start a new thread:

In the college game, which do you consider more important, recruiting or coaching? I know that both are important but you can only pick one answer.

Coaching is always more important. A bad coach with good talent usually fails. A good coach with marginal talent has many times been successful, not just by coaching, but by motivating the team to play above their capabilities and play as a cohesive unit.

They are equally important. Maryland had Ralph Vanderlinden as a HC for a few years, he ended with a 15-29 record. The coach that succeeded him was Ralph Friedgen. Ralph was a much better coach and he won 10+ games his first three years with Vanderlinden's players. Ralph had some success after that but never as much as those first three years with Vanderlinden's players.

I would give an edge to coaching but you have to have the players. It isn't any different in the NFL. You need both the players and the coach.

Not that Joe Gibbs didn't have the players but his record of winning three Super Bowls with three different QBs and three different RBs is something I consider important when considering all time great coaches.

I'll play the devil's advocate here and say that in the college game recruiting is more important than coaching because there have been many average coaches who happened to win the lottery in a given year on the recruiting trail who became the coach of the year in their conference the next year and possibly again before their banner recruits graduated and they became average coaches again.

The end to the Cleveland/Pittsburg game is a hot topic of conversation across the nation, is it just too close to getting into politics/ social issues the reason why there's no mention of it in the Off Topic Lounge? Asking for a friend.:D

My take mason started it, Garreett took it way too far, and Pouncey should’ve stomped his teeth down his throat
