I read Deadspin for years and still pop in from time to time and while a blanket “stick to sports” edict is ridiculous the place did become a shadow hard left opinion vertical that occasionally showed dumb sports stuff over the past four years.

There was also a shit ton of problematic stuff that happened there over the years that they just kind of pretended never happened - a former writer who was still very good friends with writers still there had some very credible me too allegations lobbied against him, not to mention this guy who was acting editor before being fired today and getting all kinds of support:

They carried a shit ton of petty vendettas - ESPN, Bill Simmons, and most ironically Barstool considering Barstool today is basically what Deadspin was for its first ten years or so. Not to mention they were part of the same group that outed Peter Thiel and wound up paying severely for having done so, which led to their current situation.

Guess that’s all to say there isn’t much sympathy to go around. End of the day you work for someone, they told you they want to run their business one way and you told them no. Not sure in what business you can get away with that.

Maybe if we provided education to everyone who wants it, then we wouldn't need to have this inane argument.

So Kenney ran pretty much an entire platform on axing the carbon tax and now he's putting one in place. Who wants to bet that Albertans who voted for him don't call him on this?

Anyway, maybe a baby step in the right direction?

Opinion: Alberta’s carbon-pricing policy is imperfect – but in one significant way, it’s actually better than Ottawa’s

Bizarre part of it is the site specific conditions for non-power producers. If you were a terrible polluter before you can continue to be a terrible polluter! Tax free! But if you worked hard to clean up your operations and have significantly reduced emissions you better watch yer ass!!

If I was the board of a company that had worked to become more environmentally responsible I'd be pretty damn pissed off.

When I was in Halifax I made a trip to Tim Horton's specifically to try the coffee. It was fine. Alannah Myles took my order. She was nice.

I'd like to share a coffee with Cobie Smulders, I think that would be nice.

Guy on left is sheep. I don't understand why people think that a US leader would actively work against our own interests. I can understand where one by be to stupid to understand how things work (Trump) or manipulated by corporate interests (Bush Jr, Obama some). But this whole "this person is trying to ruin America routine" that some half (more on the right, but also some on the left) is just an indication that our country is just pretty damn stupid.

Rednecks have always ruined America (civil war, women's rights, you name it). Fucking rednecks continue to be dangerously stupid (electing Trump, anti-vaxxers, climate deniers).

Fucking... rednecks.

Republicans storm out of Veterans' Affairs Committee, refuse to vote on health care bill for women veterans

They tried to tack in two things - Stopping payments for any childcare provider paid by the VA if they employ someone who is a "sex offender", which is pretty well impossible for someone registered as such to get hired in the first place with the background checks in place to get credentialed as a provider. The wording is insanely vague, so the belief is that they will broadly define "sex offender" as "homosexual person".

And a firearms amendment that was to have the VA stop reporting veterans that cannot manage their own finances as "mentally incompetent" which could prevent them from purchasing firearms.

Yes, really.

Fortunately, even with the publicity stunt, the bill passed.

I could see why some of the boys took him for snobby. He had a quiet way about him, a walk and a talk that just wasn't normal around here. He strolled, like a man in a park without a care or a worry in the world, like he had on an invisible coat that would shield him from this place. Yeah, I think it would be fair to say...I didn't like Jeffry from the start.
