shot a 45 last night after about a month of playing shitty shitty golf

shots were coming off clean, only a couple miss hits...putting sucked though. Partially because the greens were dying and it really is tough to gauge speed on those fuckers, but also because I was pushing the ball on longer putts. Gross

lipped out 2 birdie putts.

Made an effort to having better posture when swinging, which puts a better face on the club at impact. Still hoping that will help with the slice on my driver.

Huh, I started doing that as well. Noticed I was getting too much on the toes of my feet, leading to slightly off balanced and miss-hit shots. More even balance on my feet straigtened out most of my shots and I even hit a draw or two in there.

It's always about the fundamentals.

What's better posture?

If you're slicing, you're cutting across the ball. That can be caused by more than one thing. Do you occasionally pull the ball way left? If so, your swing path is outside-in.

Like, I tend to slouch when standing over the ball, so instead I'm pulling my shoulders back, stranding more upright, and sticking my ass out a little, like Ben Hogan says to do in his book.

In turn, trying to make my club lay more flush with the ground. .

My weight shift is getting more on the ball of my feet as opposed to my left heel, which is why I'm pulling my club in and spinning the ball to produce the slice.

Also be sure that on the downswing you're not letting your left hip slide forward. That causes a push/slice quite often. Combat it by staying behind the ball and hit from the inside. Good luck man.

I'm going to try to play 18 today for the first time in a month so we'll see how it goes. The weather's gonna be mid 70s, sunny with 47% humidity and no wind. Christ, you could call for better weather that that.

I have a tendency to drop my left shoulder. I am not sure about my hip.

As of now, this is all self diagnosed. I think I know what I need to do to fix it, but it is hard to reproduce it.

The one minute mark shows what i have a tendency to do with my driver, and it can cause a slice..or as i prefer to call it a power fade.

Had the opportunity to play a round with both of my boys and one of my lifelong best friends a few weeks back. Josh Racer was up from FLA for a long weekend so we could celebrate Pops Racer's 90th birthday so we went up to Tilton, NH and played a very nice course called Lochmere CC.

The course is in phenomenal condition and the greens were rolling true and blazing fast. I pushed my first drive out to the right, got a shitty bounce and had to retrieve the ball and take a drop. 3rd shot was pin high but pulled left and just off the green. I proceeded to hit a nice little chip and watch my ball roll 50 feet right off the other side of the green :L Chipped back up a bit too long again and two putts later I'm walking to the 2nd tee box with a triple to start my day.

At that point my sons must have been thinking that I was going to be easy pickins, but.............................................. even though it was only my 4th or 5th round of the year I basically hit every fairway or was in the first cut for the rest of the day

I had a nice easy stroke going and just kept hitting drives 230-250 yards hole after hole. My iron play from the fairway was solid enough, but I did find myself in unenviable spots on or around the greens a half dozen times and it cost me a good 10 strokes. Wound up shooting 90 and kicking everyone's ass.

I'm not sure why I waited until 18 to grab my oldest boy's newish "Epic" driver, but I hit that thing about 285 right down the middle and heard both of the boys moaning about me playing the round of my life :laugh3:

It wasn't the round of my life and them damn greens are to blame!

Gonna go to the driving range even though my left shoulder feels like I got body slammed by Lawrence Taylor.

After a day's rest me & Phil played 18 again yesterday. The course was empty at 4:00 oclock 'cause it's Championship weekend and everyone was all golfed out and drinking by then.

Just as were gonna tee off, our asst pro asks if he can join us. Oh man, I'd never played with him before....great guy, awesome player. You always want to play well in front of your pro and I did. I really struck the ball well all day. I had a long putt for 79 on #18 and two-putted for an 80. Phil also shot 80 but he played from the tips with Marc while the old man with the fake hip and bum knee used the whites.

Marc was on fire and made 6 birdies! He bogeyed the last two holes though for a 68 so I guess holding a great score is hard on his level too.

So a 79 and an 80 this weekend. I was just glad to be back and am really pleased that I'm playing well and my knee seems to be ok. Really striking my irons well except for an 8 iron on #16 that I pulled into a sand trap. Left the fist one in the trap and then bladed the next one to the other side of the green in the rough. I really needed to get up and down and it was a tricky a speedy chip down to the hole and I did something smart. You're usually frustrated at that point and if you don't have the right club with you, you just hit the shot with the club you've got. Well I didn't. As pissed as I was, a triple here would leave me with no chance to break 80. I took a deep breath and walked the 30ft over to the cart and got my 60 degree. Pitched to to 10 inches for a tap-in double putting me 9 over and still with a chance.

yea, that's not my issue. I think I might have too much of a backswing on it? I dunno...I would need a slo mo video done. I think I am coming across the ball wrong in some way.

Today was my third day of walking pain free so we're teeing off just after 3 tomorrow for my first 18 in a long time. Phil says the course conditioning is just ridiculous right now. I hate to go snob but it's a whole different world from munis.

Tell me about it...our track is a semi-private course so not really a munis. But...the layout sucks (IMO), damn near every driving hole there is trouble left and right and most landing areas are tight....you have to go about 2 hundred yards from the #1 green to the #2 tee box...and maybe about 6 more slightly shorter treks from the green to the next tee. Clearly it was let's build a housing subdivision and see if we can fit 18 golf holes in there too.

The one good thing they did about 4 yrs ago was rip up the bent grass greens that they simply were not able to sustain JUL and AUG and many were just not good ever. The new greens have literally saved the course imo. Anyway, a new owner bought the place back in April and to his credit he's put money into the course...but where he's putting the money has me wanting to switch to a new club next year....totally remodeled the clubhouse (which was old, but not bad at all), new golf carts (okay those are money makers for the course)...meanwhile, driving on the cart path you will absolutely spill whatever you're drinking to the pot holes, humps and bumps on the cart paths.

But...my buddies like the price and the proximity to home and I like playing with these guys so I'll probably be there next yr.

...so you have a membership?

Our course will be aerating fairways beginning this week. When you're aerating fairways, you can only imagine how perfect the conditioning is.

Super fast greens are normally pretty true also...just a matter of getting used to the speed.

I played TPC Sugarloaf back about a month ago and the greens were "normal speed"...they were running about 12 on the stimp….I'm used to playing on pretty quick greens...they normally run about 10.

Our course will be aerating fairways beginning this week. When you're aerating fairways, you can only imagine how perfect the conditioning is.

Yes...you have full members (there maybe about 60-70 guys I think are full members)...you grab a cart and go basically, your mo dues covers range balls, green fees, cart fees (I've seen a few guys walking it, but with all of the long distance between holes, not many walk it)…$230 a mo + $20 food/drink minimum. They get 1st dibs on tee times, and discounts on clubhouse gear...sorta like most private club setups.

Then they have Players Club members...$40 a mo, 2 buckets a balls a day...early morning $25 cart fee, + 1 beverage. Late morning $16 cart fee + 1 beverage...they have maybe 250 or so Players Club Members....this is our membership level. We are affiliated with two other clubs, but both of them are about an hour away. We've gone over there and played them when they aerated...decent courses, but not worth the drive time.

The club I would like to join is about 40 mins or so from the house, but this a totally different level of club. It's a residential golf course, but one where the golf course went in 1st. Rarely are there houses on both sides, but if you stray 10 yds off the fairway, you're in the rough, not OB in somebody's yard.

I so wish one or two of you could visit and play my course. Everything about my club is simply fantastic. The staff, the members, the tournaments, the restaurant, the pro shop and the conditioning. No tee times and we have the place to ourselves regularly.

Nice...would I like that!

We're grounded this year somewhat, but I've mentioned the wife and I would like to get up that way for a lobster trip and I'll definitely PM you once I know that's going to happen.

The one good thing about our track...if you can score well there, you can score well just about anywhere. It does test your game....:D.

a couple holes I'd like to have back last night.

pulled something in my right pec/rib cage on Tuesday night playing in my sand volleyball league, so rotating was a challenge golfing last night. I was very reserved with my swing. No swinging out of my shoes last night.

for the most part it worked, but there were some swings where I was hitting the ball thin or flubbed the shot because of the injury.

Oh well, I think my team got some points last night and it might move us into 3rd place in the league with a week to go. I can live with that.

The body a funny way of protecting itself when you have an injury...almost as if that body part is sending a message to the brain...I can't do this I like I normally do, but I can do it like this today...lol

Congrats on the points...stay off the volleyball pit!

I did something silly a couple of years ago involving volleyball...in the parking lot at the office we have a chain link fence that separates the warehouse yard from the parking lot. The field crew comes in early one day and I look out there and they were playing volleyball.

Me being me, I go out there, and the next thing you know, I'm involved in a full blown volleyball match...spiking/blocking, the whole 9...the next day my knees were like rubber from jumping up and down on the asphalt, back aching like hell...I had to take about 3 weeks off from golf that year. Even though we kicked ass, never again.
