@Chewbaccer If you want a treat check out Duane Allman and Aretha Franklin doing a cover of the Weight. Duane is on slide guitar

AND

I've heard it. He was also playing guitar on Layla.

Also check out Wilson Picket's Hey Jude. Skydog was on guitar and delivered one of the best solos ever recorded. There is a great backstory to how this collaboration happened and it is viewed as the birth of Southern Rock.

Well, in that case, the Band had Canadians.

And that is why I went with the Eagles. I love CCR more than the Eagles but IMHO the Eagles were better.

I consider Stevie a solo artist otherwise of course he's listed. The Jimi Hendrix Experience would have been listed as well.

Fair enough.

After sleeping on it, I'm going with The Allman Brothers, and I'll put em up against any of the British bands too.

Just listened to Wilson Pickett's version of Hey Jude for the first time. That might be my new choice for best cover of all time. I'm admittedly not a fan of the Beatles, so I had low expectations going in.

Skynyrd. Saw them in the Gator Bowl Coliseum. Maybe 10,000 in a closed arena. 3 guitar assault on the senses. Lotta great bands, but they are my favorite.

I don't know how to answer this, there are so many ways to look at "Best"
What are you going for with "Best"???

For Example:
Sheer amount of recorded quality material albums & bootleg - The Grateful Dead
Most good songs and no real suck songs - The Eagles
Songs I LIKE the best - The Doors
Most American sound - CCR
Best technical musicians - Boston
Band that everybody and his brother loves - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Best Show (not music) - KISS
Best look - ZZ Top
Most gay incomprehensible lyrics - Nirvana
Most powerful voice - Journey

Chili Peppers were so overrated, that they wear out the word

REM had some good songs but were too gay

I appreciate most of the bands here and like some of their songs, but overall it's just not my taste. Although my dad's favorite of this group would definitely be the Chicago. I remember him also playing the Eagles a lot too.

Of these, my favorite would probably be Journey.
