Trent Williams Redskins Rumors Tracker: What is the latest on the holdout saga?

ok , according to this he isnt requesting the staff be fired and in fact they dont know what he wants . more guarantees appear to be it
According to this, who the hell knows what Trent wants. He needs to be careful. If he doesn't clarify what his real issues are, he could turn out to look like the bad guy in this whole thing, something that is very hard to do when Bruce Allen is involved.

Everything I've read up here in the northeast says that he was really pissed about the Skins medical staff treatment of what turned out to be a benign tumor on his scalp. They kept telling him it was nothing to be concerned about. From what I've read, he doesn't to play in Washington for fear that he could get hurt and they'll screw him or screw up. That's why he originally asked for a trade. Skins ignored him. Then he demanded a trade and the Skins ignored him. He didn't show up for anything this past spring and then demanded a new contract and the Skins are fining him $208,000 a week while campis running.

From the reports up here, the Skins and patriots were talking about a trade when someone in the Skins front office leaked it. The Pats and Texans have had a nasty spring and the Texans called about TW and the the ballstarted rolling down hill. According to the reports, the Browns, Colts and Steelers have inquired and now the Skins are saying he's not available. which generally means that the offers are getting better and the Skins will listen if someone like the Texans is ready to go over the top. Maybe a 2nd and 4th and a player??

Who knows. There are also reports that the Redskins did refer him to a specialist and he cancelled the appt and never made another one.

As for your trade value, it would probably depend on the player. But if all of these teams have expressed interest (who wouldn't) then the possibility that they do trade him grows only because his value is growing. He might garner a 1st from someone and, if so, the Redskins need to seriously consider trading him. Lets face it, while he is still one of the best LTs in the league, He is in his twilight of his career. He hasn't played a full season in a couple of years. At his age and position, the physical skills tends to decrease rather rapidly once into the early 30s. The Redskins do need to find his replacement wether he stays or not. A 1st in next year's draft would go along way to finding that quality replacement at a much cheaper price.

Should be a 1 and 3. Still has a cheap contract. His game has diminished. If your the Pats why not do it? Your in win now mode with Brady. The Texans are the only team on your list that shouldn't make the playoffs.

He's not cheap at $14.7M. The Pats don't have a ton of cap space. In order to sign him the Patriots have to do Brady's contract and sign him for at least three years to spread the money and be able to pick up Williams' salary.

He's not worth a 1 and 3. You're dreaming if you think anyone would give up that much. He's not 25 and he's not in a rookie contract. He's 31 years old and that immediately drops his value. The Skins will be lucky if they can get a 2 + 4, more than likely they'll have to settle for a 3 and 7.

I thought the money was less than that. He should fetch a late one b/c he was a pro bowl LT. 31 is not old. There should be a bidding war for his services. I agree his best days are behind him but teams tend to overpay for proven talent.

Trent Williams

Here are his contract details & it does count $14.7 M against the cap this year (his dead cap money is not that bad).

You are not being objective with your take. Sure Williams is viewed as one of the best LTs in the game & yes 31 is not that old for that position (remember when Ray Brown was effective way into his 40s). When healthy Williams is a beast & highly effective.

However on the flip side you have to consider that he now has a recent history of injuries (he has not played a complete season in a very long time). He also will be perceived to be somewhat of a malcontent by some & had the suspension issue in the relatively recent past. I am not judging him (I love the guy), but in this situation perception is just as important as reality. You also have to account for the fact that the Redskins are dealing from a position of weakness - not strength - in this situation.

IMO all of this will lead to his trade value being a lot lower than what you are stating in your reply. I believe that at this time the Skins are sincere in stating that they don't want to trade him & one of the bigger factors is that they realize they won't fetch much for him & he has more value if he plays for the franchise. Hopefully this doesn't drag out too long.

He would be on the PUP anyway as a result of his surgery

His value really depends on the number of suitors and, maybe more so, injuries on other teams. The team has some time. He could still come back within 2 weeks of the 1st game and be fine, assuming he is working out, which I'm sure he is. Also, the closer we get to the trade deadline, the greater his value will be. The smart thing is for the team to spend the next few weeks trying to hammer out a deal with him. But if it becomes apparent that he won't sign anything, then open the market doors and trade him to the highest bidder, outside of the NFC East.

Agree. If he just makes it obvious that he won't play for the team then perhaps you just try to get something for him. Also his track record suggests that he is going to miss more time moving fwd so you might as well start planning for his eventual replacement (who very likely may not be on the team now & may be someone they find in the draft).

The leverage we have is that other teams besides the Pats will make a play for him. Why wouldn't the Pats give up a late 1 for him? They are a playoff team and need to protect Brady. He is worth more to the Pats b/c they are a serious Super Bowl contender. I believe TW best days are behind him and would welcome a 1st round pick for him.

I like Trent, he has been a favorite since he came into the league. Hell, how could you not root for a guy nicknamed Silverback.

I am not a big believer in tearing up contracts. Especially when you are paying $20+ to a guy that can't play. That is not Trent's fault but it is part of the equation.

There has been so much reported and none of us know what the truth is. It would help if Trent would let everyone know. If he doesn't want to play under his current contract here then I am okay with getting the most you can for him and letting him go some place else. I will miss his talents but you can't hold the team up or next you know someone else will be trying the same thing.

"If" Casserly is correct then, this can be resolved imo.
If Casserly is correct and its not about the training staff, then Trent is playing chicken with others careers. That would suck.

Trevor Matich indicated OBJ is one of his best friends. Enough said there. I'm sure TW told Penn, "go ahead and sign, I'm not coming back".
Resolution at this point? Making him sit and not get paid would hurt Trent but also the team. Explore a trade and if teams don't want to pay fair value, make him sit.

The worst thing the team could do it have him sit out the year. No one wins in that scenario. If he is determined to leave, trade him.
