Is a conference that refuses to play their own conference members really a conference?

SEC sets 12-year non-division rotation

SEC coaches vote to keep eight-game conference schedule, but nine is impending

Regardless of the roration or not of teams that plays each other.. we have a CCG that could be against 2 teams that haven't played in a while..

Just curious, when is the last time Iowa played a P5 other than Iowa? There is no real variance in their schedule year in, year out.
I meant to say when was the last time Iowa State played a P5 other than Iowa?

B1G 10 = 9.7 P5
ACC = 9.4 P5

2011 UConn, were still apart of the Big East which had a BCS auto bid
The last time that Iowa State played a P5 opponent not named Iowa was 2002 and it was Florida State. No P5 opponents scheduled in the future

The last P5 OOC opponent for Iowa not named Iowa State was 2011 and Pitt. No p5 opponents scheduled in the future.

This is why I would prefer an 8 game conference schedule with 2 Mandatory P5 opponents because teams that have a natural rival won’t play anyone else.

Too late ... you and your kind have been exposed. We've all seen the facts on teams that play 8 game conference schedules.

Gotta say AG, I admire your optimistic outlook. You don't look at the Pac 12 and focus on how irrelevant they are and that the only two times they've been in spitting distance of the national championship the last 15 years, they've been humiliated by sleepwalking teams from the east. No, you instead find a niche and focus entirely on beating your chest about that. It doesn't bother you that no one cares and that it's irrelevant to team success, you just keep beating your chest. I like that glass is half-full mindset. Kudos man.

When a team playing a 9 game conference schedule whens a natty, let me know.

More than ever does it prove there is an advantage with playing an 8 game conference schedule. Good on the SEC and ACC for taking advantage of that. I wish everyone else (even the B12) would just go to an 8 game conference schedule.

I don’t think that a 9 game conference schedule is what is keeping the Big10, Big12, and the PAC12 from winning games after a 4-5 week layoff.

It’s not the sole reason. But it sure helps. That extra win that both those (SEC and ACC) get as result of the extra OOC game is not hurting resumes anywhere in those said conferences. Because let’s be honest, that extra OOC game results in playing some G5 (usually bad) opponent at home. Which I dont blame them. I’m just not going to pretend it’s not an advantage.

I love your idea of an 8 game conference schedule and 2 mandatory P5’s OOC. That is a great idea.

It makes it a little bit easier to compare teams/conferences instead of doing a six degrees of college football.

What? I was saying we want to preserve those rivalries.

I know, my point was that you don't need to schedule FCS or have 8 conference game schedule in order to keep that. It isn't hard to schedule either... UGA and Gtech happens in the last week, it is preserved every year as the last game. Same for Florida/FSU. It doesn't require difficult logistics. And yes, Iowa and Iowa St still schedule it every year in the first few weeks of the year. Other teams manage this, it is doable and the fact that these games UGA/GT, UF/FSU, Clemson/SC all happen as the last game of the year makes it easy.

It is an excuse to say that those games would be done away with. They would only be done away with if they didn't want to keep them... or if they actually did determine that scheduling FCS or G5 schools is more important than the rivalries. AG isn't wrong in saying that it doesn't hold water, not to mention, that these FCS and G5 schools.... they have conferences too. They have to schedule around it all too. Again, these are only excuses.

I am not saying it is up to you, I know you don't make the schedules (most likely lol, could be an AD or coach under that username), but fan to fan... those are excuses. Full stop.

Rather keep Mercer on the schedule than Gtech? Gotcha.
You realize this doesn't make any sense, right? The post to which you responded stated that one reason we play 8 conference games is because several of our teams have rival games to end the year - UGa v. Tech, UF v. FSU, USCjr v. Clemson, and UK v. Louisville. And, because we are smart and schedule to our advantage, not our disadvantage.

In that you responded to a UGa poster and mentioned two Georgia schools, if you are taking a shot at our schedule you are barking up the wrong tree. We play 9 P5 teams every year with our Ga Tech game, we've aggressively scheduled OOC in the past, and our OOC for the next 13 years is one of the most aggressive, if not the most aggressive. In one year we will be playing our 8 SEC games, and then Ga Tech, Texas and Clemson. In another year we have Ga Tech, FSU and Texas.

In the past 10 years Washington has played 4 games against SEC schools and has a record of 0-4, losing by an average score of 29-12.

The Huskies don’t have to check their testicles, they don’t seem to have any.

This is true as well.

However, that means that Iowa has no less than 10 P5 opponents every year. Plus, since we are talking about preserving rivalries, Iowa/ISU can stay and I don't think many have an issue with 2 G5 or 1 G5 and one FCS. But the fact that other teams have 4 opponents that are G5 or D2 is ricidulous. I am not saying that it happens a lot, but it is an excuse to say that it is just too hard to schedule.

4 = 1/3 of the schedule just so everyone realizes that.

1/3 = 33%
