And . . . we need to win this series since we have to face deGrom in New York on Thursday.

I don't like dissing other fan's teams, but you do realize that you are closer to last in the division than you are to 2nd, right? Look out for the Reds. They are improving by the week.

I can assure you that I'm on top of what every team does everyday in the NL Central and nobody is running away with this division yet. I told John, a Reds fan who posts here from time to time, before the season started, that his Reds would be more competitive this season, and they have been.

It wouldn't surprise me to see the entire division be over .500 this year.

Of course none of us know what is going to happen for the remainder of this season but I want to throw this question out here just for discussion and opinions of all NL Central fans who have a favorite team in this division:

Do you think the signing of Kimbrell will put the Cubs over the top to win the NL Central this season?

I agree, this is possible but it also could mean that the only team going to the playoffs from this division will be the team that wins this division with all these teams beating up on each other. It's a long season and we're not even half way there yet.

I think the Cubs certainly got better going forward. Kimbrel has been a stud his entire career. I hate to say it, but the Cubs have better talent in the starting rotation, now in the bullpen and of course the starting lineup. We are going to need to get some production boost out of someone. I think Goldy will catch fire. Ozuna might. Molina could. It the starting pitching that I have no faith in.

But, one game at a time. We are facing a pitcher who has only pitched 67 innings in his MLB career with a plus 5 ERA. I like our chances tonight. These are the games that must be won in order for the Cards to get back into it.

You sure got it right tonight with a great pitching duel and it's still not over as I type this.

Another tragic ending for Cincy.

Im usually a fairly optimistic Reds fan. But this team is just missing the mark. In the context of how weve been the past couple of seasons, and how we've improved, there's plenty to be happy about.

The problem is since this is the best division in baseball, unless we kick it into gear here REAL soon, we are going to have be realistic on July 31 and be sellers. Several of these guys are FAs after rhis season. Youve gotta get pieces for the future if you can rather than nothing

Thats all well and good, except we did such a poor job getting fair value for guys like Frazier, Cueto, Cozart, Chapman etc after the last playoff run, I have to be skeptical we will not screw it up this time. And the other side of that is we've been sold on having our internal core from the rebuild (Trammel, Green, Senzel, etc) being in place 2020-2021. Well...you just never know 100% if thatll play or not.

Seems like we're in baseball purgatory.

On a positive note, 8 games out of first place like Reds are , with the exception of the NL East, is good enough for 2nd place anywhere else on MLB.

In the all important loss column we are now only 3 games behind both the Brewers and the Cubs.

Keep the faith!

Yes, that was a tough loss for your Reds last night but when you look back at the past couple of seasons your Reds are certainly making big time progress from where they were. They are certainly more competitive this season just like I told John, another Reds fan who posts here from time to time, they would be before the season started.

Keep the faith and continue the rebuild, IMO. You guys aren't far from being legit contenders

I agree because teams that use to be above the Reds in the standings who use to sweep them have to work their butts off to beat them now.

A nice win to split the series with Houston. Verlander gets a career high 15 strike outs and it still goes to extra innings for a Brewer win. A total of 7 home runs in the 2 game series for the Brewers

LOL...the Reds are on pace to win 5 or 6 more games than last year and still not break 500. You have a ways to go Reds fans. And two words for you, Joey Votto. Uggg

Reds may end up dumping Puig before he can walk as a FA, but an OBP that's under .300 isn't likely to appeal to anybody who needs a corner outfielder.

Pirates are living in the mud right now, not that I mind ... but their pitching all went to the hospital in the same ambulance.

Kimbrell makes the Cubs the favorite now -- IF the Cubs can find another starter at the deadline. Who needs an infielder?
Everyone.

Best trade chip now is Jose Iglesias, and the Reds will deal him.

Cardinals are a .500 team, so they are right where they belong. If I were them, I'd see what Hicks is worth. Throwing 105 gets you lots of offers.

Beers can't catch the Cubs. Mil's pitching is not as good as it looks.
