Don’t know what they expected allowing that GM to throw all that money around. Gase, who did nothing of note to merit this job, was brought in to build a team & change their culture. And that GM was desperate to save his job. He spent an absolutely absurd amount of the Jets money on just 3 guys (Bell, Mosley & Crowder).

There is a floor you have to spend to I'm pretty sure, but it was where he chose to spend the money. Over $191 mil invested ($112 mil G) actually it was 4 players with Henry Anderson getting a similar deal to Crowder.

Bell makes them better for sure, but no one else was bidding that high so they competed against themselves. Look for Gase (if he's still in charge) to get out of this contract at the 1st opportunity.

Mosely is also a good player, but incredibly benefitted from being a big fish in a small FA pond. Far too much for his position imo.

The other two guys are marginal players that cash in big with ($17 mil G each!) ...but this will be fun to watch play out now that we know Gase didn't want to spend that much money on Bell.

No joke... Talk about throwin your best skill player under the bus before you even get the chance to work with him. Going to be real awkward lol. More wood on the fire for Bell to be motivated though. If he can be lol.

I thought I heard that Baltimore & a few other teams were in the Bell sweepstakes? Might have been tampering period smoke. But Bell did post to his twitter saying something about "so many good options, and need to make a decision" during the start of FA. Could have just been a lie to save face, since the deal he took was considerably lower than what he wanted. Doubt there were many other teams wanting to pony up nearly as much as the Jets did.

Whatever Bell has to say, you take with a grain of salt...most of the teams that were reportedly interested...SF, TB, NYJ, maybe BAL and others, but none even made an offer aside from the Jets.

I think it was Oakland that was believed to be a favorite to land him too. I didn't hear that nobody else made offers. Interesting.

OAK was supposedly interested...with all of the leaks on these teams these days I think we would've heard if anybody else was actually making an offer. Not confirmed, but I heard the Jets made an offer 1st and they tried to shop it and came up empty.

Yea it’s pretty rare anymore that contract offers are kept under wraps. In this day & age there are thousands of people PER TEAM covering every move and spreading fuel on even the smallest of rumors. But it sucks that nobody is ever held accountable for spreading false information. On the contrary it’s glorified to be wrong, simply because it creates buzz & clicks.

Even agents are out leaking false intel to the idiots trying to make a name for themselves. They eat it right up and plorst all across the internet in hopes that someone may or may not give them credit. But it spreads like wildfire.

Lol... if nobody wanted to bid for him in FA against the Jets, then what makes them think someone will suddenly be willing to trade for him? Would be ridiculously funny though. Jets would probably have to give up more than just Bell to coax a trade partner out of the woodwork.

I guess it wouldn’t be too terrible to trade for him. Jets are on the hook for the guaranteed money ($27m). Whoever lands him will only have to afford his base & bonuses if I’m not mistaken. AND there’s an out in the contract after 2020. So in reality, whoever trades for him only has to pony up around $14m over 2 seasons ($2m in ‘19, $8.5m in ‘20, with $2m per in bonuses), but he gets a whole lot more expensive if they want to keep him through 2021 & beyond.

What a horrible situation for Bell. First he loses tons of millions of dollars, then He fails to land a blockbuster contract he wanted further losing money, and now he’s found himself on a team that doesn’t want him, and could possibly end up on another team that has no intentions of paying him more than the $14m over 2 seasons... that would put him back on the FA market in 2021, and he’ll be 30 years old I believe.

Bell’s value is hitting rock bottom before he ever takes another snap. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. Bell could be in for a catastrophic failure of a career from a contract standpoint.

Bell is getting what he deserves for throwing his team under the bus holding out for more money. He was on a winning team with a fan base that loved him, passed up contracts that would have made him the highest paid RB in the league, and spit in everyone's face with his ridiculous holdout! This asshat is getting exactly what a greedy prick deserves, I find it refreshing that Karma finally bites one of these overpaid pricks in the ass. anyone who who is insulted to play 16 games for $14.5 MILLION dollars needs to be unemployed or working at Walmart for a reality check. Screw LeVeon Bell, he totally brought this on himself with GREED. Enjoy your tenure with the Jets choke on your guaranteed money asshole.

What part of “$14m for 2 years” would any team not want? You get a potentially elite top 5 RB for just $4m this year, and $10m next year. I think every team would be interested.

The problem is a ton of GMs came forward to say they didn’t want to bring in people like him that have character concerns. So there is definitely an ethics dilemma that could still prevent teams from being a trade partner. But the contract is actually very favorable.

For the record, I’m not promoting the Steelers to take a look. I want nothing to do with that asshole and am happy he is getting what he deserves.
