If the Lakers are drafting for need, they should trade back and draft Bol Bol IMO.

They need a C badly

Lakers need perimeter shooting more than anything. Of course, a lot hinges on who they think they are getting in free agency and if that #4 is going to be potentially used in a trade.

If AD gets traded elsewhere, they can potentially get one in free agency. Say $32M for a max contract and the balance to sign someone like maybe Thomas Bryant (Wizards FA the Lakers shouldn't have waived last summer).

They need to just keep Davis, draft Zion, have them work out a couple of times, and maybe there's a happy ending for the Pelicans. Those two guys would complement each other so well.

Is that really that different from what they had with Randle this year? Zion may have more upside, but it will take time to realize it.

The last thing in the world I want is for the Celtics to get AD but the Celtics still have plenty of ammo to get AD if they want to.
The celtic's ammo is not as good as you think it is. The Lakers have #4, next years first round, and young assets. AD wants to come to LA, not Boston. You would be renting him for a year.

What does Kyrie have to do with an AD trade?

The Celtics could offer #14, the top-6 protected 2020 Grizzlies pick, and a collection of players including Tatum and/or Brown.

What other team can offer a better package?

The only question is whether the Celtics will make the move.

AD is friends with Kyrie and interested in playing with him. If Kyrie is gone, who is left for AD to play with in Boston that would entice him to sign an extension? Tatum, Brown, and picks would be gone. Rozier sounds like he wants out as well. Is Hayward and old man Horford enough? Doubtful. Ainge knows this and would ratchet down his offer (if he offers at all) for a potential rental.

Not next year's first rounder (can't trade back to back first round picks); it would be 2021.

#3 pick and Knox for Davis.

Pelicans would have a young big 3 of RJ, Zion, and Knox.

3 lottery picks from the last 2 years.
That is no where near enough LOL Knox LOL

The problem is that a team will need to make a move for AD before the draft and free agency doesn't happen until after the draft.

I think every team will be taking some pretty serious risks.

If that's true, the Celtics are out. They can't trade for AD with Kyrie still under his current contract.

I know, I'm a fan and if the Lakers hadn't moved up, would've pushed for him. He's also a toothpick giant with foot problems already, that's the risk. I don't think the Lakers are necessarily viewing the #4 as a player but a trade asset. Trading down potentially devalues that trade asset.

Like to Washington in a Beal trade. Swap the picks (4 for 9), send some of the young players for Beal. Not likely to happen before the draft though. The pick has too much value in a potential AD trade, which they'll pursue first. But if they strike out, its something to keep an eye on for later in the summer where instead they just end up swapping the players they drafted.

Which is why the Lakers should draft the best TALENT available at #4, regardless of fit. Maximize the value, figure out the fit later. They're gonna have to reshape the roster later on anyway. So if the best talent is Garland, get him. Who gives a fuck if you've got Lonzo currently

He can play with Lonzo anyway, as he's a great shooter and solid defender. Lonzo has the size to guard 2s and 3s.

I think the pels would want garland.

Unless a surefire #1 pick drops in their laps like lebron or kyrie, the cavs have been notoriously terrible at drafting players.

It would almost be funny if it wasn't so pathetic

Cavs drafted with 2 #1 picks Lebron James and Kyrie Irving, Tristan and Waiters (when healthy) both ended up very good as well as Danny Green.

Lakers drafted with 2 #2 picks Lonzo Bust and Brandon Ingram lost Dangelo Russell and Randle who were also not superstars.

Don't worry about our drafting lol

Man, I'm not totally sold on Zion but you get a front court together of him and Davis and it's going to be a wrecking ball.

I think Zion will be a bust. A lot of the 1st round picks have been busts lately. If you look at the last group of superstars in the NBA, they were all picked in the 4-15 range anyways. Ask GS and Mill

With that said, NO has way more leverage now landing the 1 pick, i could also see the Knicks offering their 3 pick tho

This might actually help the Lakers get Davis. All those young players plus 4 to pair with Zion is very fair

They might even be able to keep a couple of the kids if they add a couple of future firsts along with the #4.

I hate the Celtics. I don't want AD in Boston in the least bit.

However the Celtics could offer #14, their pick, the Grizzlies Top 6 pick next year, the Clippers pick, plus whatever young guys they want.

The Lakers have #4, their pick in 2021 and some mix of Ball, Ingram, Kuzma and Hart. Ingram is the best piece but I don't think that he is as good a prospect as Tatum or Brown at this point. I also don't think that the Pelicans have any appetite to make a deal with the Lakers.

I would much rather have AD stay in the Western Conference. But I think the Pelicans would much rather he go to the Eastern Conference.
