So true. It's not so much Tiger is it? I think when your head line guy is Matt Kuchar, you lose 90% of the fringe golf fans. They would've done okay if they had some firepower other than Tiger...they lost all of them.

Tiger with 3 scrubs would still pull more viewership than a DJ/Rory/Spieth/Phil semi-finals....but you're right. Kuchar/Kisner/Molinari/Bjerregaard doesn't generate much excitement at all, and I have no rooting interest in any of them.

I just hope it's good golf and dudes aren't winning with bogeys and stuff.

Match play (non-team) towards the end is a real tough format to generate any drama. And it gets worse quick when your left with guys like today.

Tiger isn't the best player on tour anymore and only a diehard fan would say that he is.

I hope that is not addressing the actual quote that was posted. He didn't say that & I don't believe that most fans even remotely believe that Tiger is the best on tour. He was simply stating that he would bring in more viewers. That is not even remotely close to saying he is the best current player.

I'm with ya on the TW influence on the ratings, but the 4some they ended up with was just a death wish for NBC.

Would love to see the overnight ratings - they have to be terrible. Forget about Tiger - there were really no marquee or top players in the mix, and they were going head-to-head with two of the best NCAA playoff basketball games. This is a recipe for disaster.

Don't get me wrong - the players in the final 4 were basically the ones who played the best over the week & I also believe that the Danish guy will be a real force moving fwd. Oh well - don't recall a major event like this where it was so unappealing except for the hard core golf fan (I watched a bit yesterday but didn't really care).

I was on the grill and would catch shots here and there, but just wasn't much inspiring golf. I ended up flipping it to the B tournament and watched McDowell hold off Shroud and Mackenzie Hughes...the 39 y/o Irishman kinda admitted his game had slid and was on a mission to get back to the premier events....yesterday was a good start back.

I like the matchplay format shake up for the WGC event, but when they get a bad draw on Sunday, it can be pretty boring and that's what we got.

One of the more interesting things that came from this matchplay event.

Watch: Kuchar, Sergio get into it over match play dispute

Can't blame Sergio for being pissed, but he didn't give the man time to concede...he's acting like an amateur here instead of a pro playing for a $10 mil purse.

As usual, Sergio was a doosh. Why not take a moment to turn and look at Kuchar? A put from that distance is conceded 99.999999% of the time but not without the putting player checking with his opponent first.

Exactly...then he has the nerve to be pissed at Kuchar over it....and ASKS if he would concede to hole to settle it.

With a $10 mil purse on the line....he asks this.

I'm a golf fan and I enjoyed the Sunday matches.

The media hypes up Tiger but the guys playing Sunday are darn good.

While I'm not a big fan of Sergio, I also don't dislike him greatly. He is pretty far down my list of guys that I might root against on the weekend, but I do have a couple of friends that absolutely despise him for multiple reasons and that backhanded swipe (and miss :dhd: ) of a 6" putt and his subsequent moaning about it was a good look into those reasons.

I watched match-play and enjoyed it.

I was switching back and forth for a while, and I think I lost interest for good in the Matchplay after Kuchar (who played very uninspired golf imo) failed to pick up a hole after driving it on the green on the par 5 12th I think...Kisner wedged his 3rd close for birdie...Kuch made a decent attempt at eagle, birdie conceded, but Kisner made his birdie to tie the hole and that was pretty much it. Never really turned back to it.

Spitting on the green in general I think is pretty gross...spitting in the cup is piss poor etiquette on any level of golf and Sergio has done that so I'm probably never going to like him, but he's made a lot of cash on tour.

For a reason very much like what happened to Sergio, we adopted inside the grip of the putter is good no verbal concession needed...longer than 6", we had a guy rake a short putt and missed, no one had conceded it yet. I never saw exactly where his last putt finished or even if it had finished (I thought it was still rolling when he brushed it), but another guy in the group said he was giving it to him, but again, didn't have time. We went ahead and gave him the putt, but eventually changed the game to inside the putter grip, pick it up.
