Mmmm, I guess. I just don't like paying that kind of money to a kicker. That said, our kicker was partly responsible for our playoff miss in 2018 and may be the reason for not advancing in the playoffs 2019... so...

I agree that spending a lot on a kicker is undesirable, but I believe his average cap hit per year is only about $2m more than Janikowski. His contract also puts him somewhere in the 5-10 highest paid kickers which isn't too awful.

My biggest hope is that he doesn't have a regression to the norm. He wasn't great on PATs but had an amazing year on long-range field goals last year.

It seems the contract is relatively team friendly though.

Jason Myers

If he struggles, there is an out after the 2020 season with a minimal dead money hit. I also believe we're still somewhat haunted by that Blair Walsh situation. Had he performed better in the 2017 season, the Hawks probably would've won 11 games or so.

I haven't really done much research on the kickers available in free agency, but it's nice to know we go into 2019 with a reliable kicker.

Jamarco Jones looked better than Ifedi at RT and he was a rookie this past season, To bad he got hurt. I agree to sliding Ifedi back to guard. He is not good enough to even think about playing Tackle and as a guard is serviceable. Jones or Fant at RT and Ifedi inside would make for a stronger line than we had last year and not because of Improved Guard play but because of the improved TACKLE play removing Ifedi off that edge lol.

I see Ifedi as an above average run blocker but one of the worst pass blocking RTs in the NFL who is a huge risk for penalties. I'm honestly biased because I hated the pick in the first place and have felt the Hawks would've been better off putting anyone else out there. His above average run-blocking skills IMO are mitigated by the amount of penalties he commits. I view him as one of the worst starting RTs in the NFL. That could be borderline hyperbole, but I don't think it's too far off the mark.

I'm a big fan of the Iupati signing.

When he's on the field he's a better guard than Sweezy IMO. Seahawks have an interesting offensive line situation going into the 2019 season. D.J. Fluker and Mike Iupati leave much to be desired as pass blockers, but they're both premium run-blockers.

With how much the Hawks like to run the ball between the tackles, I'd say that a Brown, Iupati, Britt, Fluker, Ifedi offensive line combination is an upgrade over having Sweezy in the spot that Iupati is filling.

Seahawks should have some incredible run blocking in 2019 if everyone stays healthy.

I'm searching for more information on Jones.
Heard some positive things about him before his injury.

Anyone with info, links, etc about Jones would be interesting to read.

And we haven't solved our kicking woes just because we're paying this guy $4M a year. Maybe we have, but we could very well be buying high off a career year.

I'm pleased (for Now, lol) with Myers signing.
We need a new kicker.
A trade was probably not gonna happen.
A draft pick, remember Dan Carlson, Auburn, was a hot Draft choice, then got cut by Minnesota.
He later signed with Oakland.

Where were the Seahawks going to get a kicker? I like the move.

Walsh helped bigly in the Hawks MISSING the playoffs 2 seasons ago. Different kicker, Hawks make the PO.
Janokowski was a huge bust, cost the Hawks a chance to beat Dallas in the Playoffs.

The Hawks needed a kicker, so we sign an All-Pro. I'm OK with this.

Jones was a 5th round pick and in his short starting duty looked the part. He was competent and moved well. He was a left tackle for Ohio State and replaced Ifedi many times in Camp because he ( Ifedi ) pissed Pete off ( Penalties ) Most of camp he was practicing as the back-up to Brown but was moved over to the right side when Ifedi just kept sucking. I do not think Ifedi can hold onto his starting job with Jones healthy and looking to take away that position from him. Jones is more technically solid and a smarter player than Ifedi. Sure he had a bad 3 cone and vert but he has solid fundamentals and a solid foundation to build on.

Thanks.

I agree that Ifedi is ok, but will see the bench or the cut line soon (contract depending).
I don't see Seattle offering Ifedi another contract.
I shall read the Jones link you sent.

Seahawks need to reload the defence
#1Ss
#2Fs

The offence is doing fine..with maybe a 3rd wr needed

Defence wins championships

And next year they will need new linebackers
While still reloading the D

I agree... I was one that didn't mind the pick at the time but he's definitely not starting material in the NFL imo... He did "OK" last year but that's comparing him to his standards... He's one of the worst pass blockers I've ever seen at a tackle position...

Rennell wren..dt Arizona state..he is a 3rd or 4th round guy but could be good as a back up ...for a few years until he puts some more polish on
His bench reps are close to the top
He can jump
And he can push the pile back..a run defender...for now

Has unfullfiled..upside
Needs to start being a student of the game
And technique

I like the fact that we didn't throw a lot of money to the first tier FA's like the ABs and Bells of the world... We went after the 2nd tier of FA's and were able to get solid players to fill in the gaps for the time being... That's smart spending... Unless it's a QB, DE or LT that get paid big in FA, they usually don't equate to SB's for other teams... RB's, WR's, TE's that get paid the big bucks in FA usually don't equate to CShips...

I'd agree on your list ulmax, but I'd move Dend to #1.

Someone to get home opposite Clark would fix a LOT of seeming issues in the secondary.
