I like it. There's no sure things... but the kid is as close as most anyone that I've personally seen. In a few years, he could be worth a Machado/Harper type of haul.

We will see how this unfolds beginning in mid-April. I can't wait for him to get up.

wait, if the signing is true, do you think he's going to start the season in the minors working on his defense?

I don't "think" anything... he has already been optioned to AAA Charlotte to begin the season. It's a done deal.

Why would they? It doesn't matter if they're paying him 300K or 300 mil. That's all besides the point. The whole point is that if they wait until April 15th, they get an extra year of control. This is why he will start the season in AAA.

Eloy was never going to be on the opening day roster.

huh? i thought the $100M deal would have bought him out of those years.

I think it does, but there's no harm as starting him in the minors. He didn't exactly tear it up in ST and bringing up up a few weeks after the season starts might put a little less pressure on him.

i figured it would, who else is starting over him? hell, the phillies bought out Kingery last year at a much smaller price (different amount of years left, different talent level) with no open position hoping he'd be a super sub.... didn't work out.

Players typically get three years before arbitration kicks in and three years after it kicks in, keeping a homegrown player under team control for six seasons. Since Jiminez will not make his major league debut until later in April - he would not accrue a full year of service time in 2019 and would be under team control for seven years instead of six. That would make him a free agent after the 2025 season. If he were on the team’s Opening Day roster and accrued a full year of service time in 2019, he would hit free agency after the 2024 season.

I hope that helps everyone understand.

?????????????
what are you talking about? if he signed for 8 years then arbitration etc means nothing at all.

Take it up with EVERY sporting news outlet who is reporting it this way.

Making sense of reported eight-year Sox/Eloy deal
nothing in that article suggests that IF he gets an 8 year contract he will ever go thru arbitration. and he would NOT be a free agent if he signs an 8 year contract unless the contract SAID he could opt out early (which is damned unlikely because there'd be no upside for the sox to give him that option).

no sporting news outlet is suggesting that either. there are a few scenarios but your suggestion he'd be a free agent after 2024 if he's signed to an 8 year contract is wrong. it'd be 2026.

I copy/pasted that damn paragraph with which you took up this point of contention with... so... Yes, it did.

the following is what you posted earlier:

""Why would they? It doesn't matter if they're paying him 300K or 300 mil. That's all besides the point. The whole point is that if they wait until April 15th, they get an extra year of control. This is why he will start the season in AAA.""

it's here you suggest an extra year of control if the did indeed sign him to an 8 year contract. you seemed to use the preceding article to verify your point and your point is wrong! nobody gives a shit about how long they have him if he doesn't play this year. this thread is about him signing an 8 year contract.
taddy, the guy you replied to, was saying why wouldn't they just call him now (if they gave him this contract). your reply was totally non sequitur and you still don't get it.

i'm guessing that we would have heard of such a transaction by now if it were going to happen. i'm kind of relieved because as good as he looks like he's going to be, there have been many guys who looked great all the way thru triple a but still couldn't cut it in the bigs like brien taylor, bryan bullington, matt bush and matt anderson and literally hundreds of top 5 picks who just couldn't make the adjustment for some reason ... just as there are low picks who became stars like wade boggs round 7, fred mcgriff round 9, andre dawson round 11, albert pujols round 13, ryan sandberg round 20 or how about mike piazza picked in round 62!

if eloy turned out to be a bust that cost $100M it would set the team back for a long time.

After a week of Have they or Haven't they, it appears the Sox are in the process of inking Eloy to a multiyear contract.

Sources: ChiSox, Jimenez agree to record deal

It's not nearly as big as the the original report of 8/$100m, yet it's still a long term deal. It's guaranteed for 6/$43m, with a two year option that could bump it to a max of 8/$77m. Both sides are rolling the dice here, but it's a bigger roll for the Sox. They commit a whole lot of guaranteed $$ for a player who has yet to appear in the Majors during the regular season. Where the Sox can make out like bandits, relatively speaking, is if Eloy proves to be the real deal. The way arbitration salaries are going these days, it wouldn't take but a single season of arbitration to more than make up for fronting the money in advance - again tho, that's assuming Eloy has the kind of career we're all hoping, even expecting.

at least it's less than half the originally mentioned amount so that eases my mind somewhat and they would obviously only extend if it is going well.
still ..... what does that kind of money do to the player's motivation? and are expectations now going to mess with his normal development?
i'd rather see a player earn what he makes instead of the other way around.
all we can do now is hope for the best.

ps. SELL THIS TEAM
