at least it's less than half the originally mentioned amount so that eases my mind somewhat and they would obviously only extend if it is going well.
still ..... what does that kind of money do to the player's motivation? and are expectations now going to mess with his normal development?
i'd rather see a player earn what he makes instead of the other way around.
all we can do now is hope for the best.

ps. SELL THIS TEAM

Premature in my opinion. No MLB ABs. Not bashing the guy. Just wish the team would spend money on FAs that have experience to bolster a team with a ton of prospects with years of control already.

This is a pussy move by the Sox organization. If he turns out as good as you expect pay the arbitration. It’s like they are scared he’s going to be good and they are going to have to pay him

Exactly. It’s their way of locking in a most likely below market contract on a guy they project to be great.

Apparently the White Sox have no idea how to navigate free agency, so they extend guys with no ML ABs, who are already under team control.

But it's still nonetheless a roll of the dice for the Sox. What if Eloy doesn't live up to the hype, or even if he starts out doing so, what happens if the injury bug hits him time and again? A lot of things could go wrong in this situation for a team that just committed a minimum of $43m before the kid has so much as swung a regular season bat in the ML.

Sure, if he is all we hope he is and sure, if he's healthy thruout the life of the contract, then this will be a steal for the otherwise cheapskate White Sox. As we're all observing these days, arbitration salaries alone have gone whack, and it seems that 9 out of 10 times, they're ruled in favor of the players.

Why would they? It doesn't matter if they're paying him 300K or 300 mil. That's all besides the point. The whole point is that if they wait until April 15th, they get an extra year of control. This is why he will start the season in AAA.

Eloy was never going to be on the opening day roster.
Ummm....
