Okay...you did.

But it's not just the age of Jackson that makes this a bad pickup...and if you can't see that, it's largely because you don't want to see it. What has Jackson done (other than be ONLY 16 month older than the best DT in the game) to warrant such a contract?

Let's see he's a monster. Jacksonville paid him over 30 million in the first two years and got 14.5 sacks while they used him right.

But you already proved that you can't retain the education I give you. Will that continue?

this writer never heard of the hoop:suds:

Eagles signed DT Malik Jackson, formerly of the Jaguars, to a three-year, $30 million contract.
The originally reported deal of three years and $10 million never made much sense, but this is still good business for the Eagles. Only 29, Jackson remains a quality and versatile interior pass rusher who should play a big role in replacing Michael Bennett's production. With Jackson on board, the Eagles will once again boast one of the best defensive lines in the league in 2019.

He'll be an upgrade over Jernigan... and slightly cheaper.

What is there to hate about this deal?

You obviously didn’t get the memo that we are in cap hell.

There’s no way we can fill out a full roster....

I'm confused if you are agreeing or disagreeing. You said it and you answered your own question. Bennett and Jernigan. Jernigan only barely played because he was hurt. He played half the game in your last game. I heard rumors Long may retire too (again). That would be 2 (3 ith Long) in the rotation down and added 1. Long obviously isn't cap related but Jernigan and Bennett were. I like Jackson, but my issue with this move for Philly is that if I were an Eagle fan I don't want them spending FA $'s on the DL where they are already very strong. They don't have a lot of wiggle room. I'd prefer them look for DBs.

Bennett is possibly a cap casualty, but maybe just as much other issues (playing time issues, at a minimum).

The assumption is that Long will not retire (one reason Bennett could be let go), and the Eagles will go with Graham, Barnett, Long, Sweat, and possibly a rookie (1st or 2nd round).

Jernigan, at $13,5 million with his most injury would never have happened, even if the Eagles had gazillions of cap space. Jackson is probably his replacement, and cheaper.

Not sure how up to date these numbers are (for instance, whether Jernigan's alleged release and Peters' new contract are counted in)

but allegedly the Eagles had the most cap room in the NFC East at $23.7 million; I assume these numbers do not take into account rumoured contracts like Jackson's, Collins' for the Redskins.

I see $32M before all 3 of Graham, Peters and Jackson. I suspect Graham and Jackson are back loaded, because those 3 averages add up to about exactly what your available cap space is. I think that's a pretty good deal they got Peters for. I think he was starting to show some chinks in the armor but I think he can do one more year. After that I guess you sign a LT or move Lane? At some point they are going to have to do something to free up a little more cap space this year.

Eagles free agent signings:

Needs as I see them: RB is arguably the biggest need, followed by LB, DE, WR, DT.
In bold the serious losses in FA as I see them. If Chris Long returns, DE becomes less of a need (though IMHO the Eagles might draft one).

Brandon Graham: resigned

Paul Worrilow: resigned

Jake Elliot: resigned

Rick Lovato: resigned

Nick Foles: effectively released. I do think however that he is seriously overrated by many.

Michael Bennett: traded away. The only serious cap casualty.

Ronald Darby: effectively replaced last season due to injury. Not sure he is worth the money he will likely be offered.

Jordan Hicks: depends on the price. Out the season before, not very effective last season.

Jay Ajayi: Out for last season.

Golden Tate: Only effective in two play-off games.

Timmy Jernigan: presumably not returning. Presumably replaced by Jackson.

Haloti Ngata: Not good last season.

Chance Warmack: reserve guard, mediocre at best.

Mike Wallace: effectively out for the season. Rumour has it Desean Jackson will replace him.

Corey Graham: bad safety, effectively done. Already replaced effectively by others on the team (by the end of the season he only played because of a slew of injuries in the backfield).

Darren Sproles: might return.

Richard Rodgers: Out for much of the season, 3rd TE at best.

Jordan Matthews: did better than expected, but only returned because of a slew of WR injuries.

LaRoy Reynolds: ST LB

DJ Alexander: ST LB

Now I have retention problems? You love the personal jab BS, but I don't care to go there.

Well at least you're finally acknowledging he hasn't done shit worthy of this contract, but he's going to pull a Calais Campbell and turn back the clock.

Let's just see how this wonderful signing works out...if he does anything worthy of this deal, you know where to find me.

Don't you Eagles fans think you need to add a CB?
I think Jackson is good, but I would have thought that money that went to Jackson could have helped the team more on the back-end.

Based on the way the DB's played by the end of last season, arguably not. The biggest problem was depletion of DB's, and actually the loss of McLeod. What did not help was Jim Schwartz calling too fancy a game (turn-around literally when Jenkins told him at half-time against the Giants to keep the calls simple, and let the guys play).

Oh I'm sure the majority will find 16 pages to make this thing into something it aint!
Yea I wonder if it will turn into 16 pages of centers or rookie contract length

the return of Jernigan next to Cox helped too. Pressure on the QB helps every DB. One overpriced DB helps 1 DB.
