No one likes giving up existing players in trades. But sometimes you have to give up quality to get quality.

IMO, when you are a winning team, it is better to have the player than hope to sign them in FA. Especially someone like AD who has little playoff success to his resume.

I got it. Ainge makes the trade. The Celtics win it all next year & AD stays in Boston. Highly unlikely but I do like the sound of it.

I don't know if they need to win it all. But a conference final or nba final certainly goes a long way. As does playing with a team that expects to win.

I just hope whatever Ainge ends up doing in the off season is the right choice.

That's the thing. The more I think about it, the C's have things set up to where there really isn't a wrong choice. Maybe a choice or 2 that's "less right", but not one that's clearly wrong.

They give up assets for him, end up with a finals run, maybe even a title and AD walks anyway. They got a finals run and maybe a title and they still have the assets to make another big move or 2.

They stand pat, let a young team improve and still have a boatload of assets to make a major move before next years deadline or next off-season if they feel they need to.

They decide they don't want to give up what the Pels will ask for and use those assets to get another top level player.

Imo, there's almost no way they can fuck up this off-season.

Yeah can't really argue w/ that. But I still don't like the idea of trading for him. Now I think an AD for Kyrie + a draft pick or two is fair. But I'm also just a little biased.

Errrrr, um, the point of trading for AD is to keep Irving.

Irving is a FA this summer.

Ainge has turned into a really good FO Exec.

  • If Ainge trades for AD, it will absolutely be the right move. AD will definitely resign and the C's will be repeat NBA champions in Davis' first year.
  • If Ainge decides not to trade for Davis, it will absolutely be the right move. Davis will be horrible wherever he ends up and the C's will win several championships regardless.
I hope that puts your mind at ease.

Those with no agenda think it's a joke LA lost their best player and have nothing to show for him. I would agree with you had Randle signed a ridiculous deal, but $9 mil per for 2 years?

Those with no agenda who understand NBA economics understand exactly why the Lakers did what they did.

They had to renounce Randle's rights to clear a second max spot. Once they did, they couldn't match. It isn't as simple as that.

And yeah, he did go for less than anybody expected. But it was too late.

Probably there to talk to Kryzewski about a trade for Zion.

Can't.

They missed the deadline.

Seriously though, that was frustrating as hell for us UVA fans. 13-20 from 3? Really?

Oh, there are plenty of ways.

If Kyrie walks they are back to where they were in the IT days.

He can't attend a college basketball game....LOL.

Looks fishy when you're best friends with Rich Paul who was likely looking at several of those players as possible clients

Unless they do something stupid like try to give him a low ball offer, I wouldn't consider Kyrie walking a fuck up by the C's though.

But, if he walks and they give up the assets necessary to get AD anyway, that would be a fuck up unless they could convince him to stay.
