It is a huge risk for sure.

for their sake I hope they have a backup plan for 1) Not getting the top pick & 2) not being able to bring KD and KI to NYC
I think they should have held out till the last hour before the deadline. They were thinking they could get AD in a package for KP, and somehow they settled for DSJ? I think they could have cleared space and still got more.

Yeah but it sounds like N.O. wasn't interested in Zingis at all. So if they don't plan on trading away their top 2019 draft pick there was nothing much to discuss for a possible AD trade. I still think they could have looked over better options...it seems like this deal has been cooking for some time. As soon as it was leaked Zingis wanted out the trade was done. NY settled

Yeah they weren't getting AD, but how bout Kyrie? I know they might get hin in FA, but why not trade for him and guarantee your chances at KD

Why no chance?

Because they are such a mess that Kristaps requested a trade before he even hit RFA. That is unprecedented for a player of his caliber. The fact that the Knicks actually moved him implies that Porzingas may have told them he would have turned down the max extension and tried to force his

What if KD is dead set on going to NYC?

They get a top 3 pick and can bring a Kemba or Kyrie to tag along with him?

Premature post: @bksballer89

Because they are such a mess that Kristaps requested a trade before he even hit RFA. That is unprecedented for a player of his caliber. The fact that the Knicks actually moved him implies that Porzingas may have told them he would have turned down the max extension and tried to force his way to unrestricted free agency after 1 more year. Also unprecedented.

Sorry, but if your franchise is such a disaster that you can't keep an elite RFA, you defintely aren't signing the cream of the crop unrestricted free agents.

It just is not going to happen. No way, no how.

That would be a pretty amazing combo. I think I'd honestly opt for Kemba over Kyrie. If only because Kyrie's already shown precedent that he doesn't appreciate being a second fiddle. Kemba's been losing all his life and would I think appreciate the opportunity to be a consistent winner.

It would be very Knicks for them to believe they are getting KD only for him to sign somewhere else leaving them with nothing.

That’s a lot of faith to put in a guy that has to go to bed for 3 days after he thinks he has made a decision.

What's in Brooklyn to draw him more than the Knicks? Better ownership, but roster-wise?
Are you seriously saying you don't see the Nets having a better roster?

Would definitely be Durant’s chance to know he did something on his own. I expect he thinks about that every single day, too much on the record to say he doesn’t.

Pretty much although every single day is a bit much, you might be projecting a bit there.

It will be a tough decision and I doubt he knows what he wants to do yet. He can make a great case for staying and a great one for leaving. And the facts aren't all in yet, he doesn't know which teams will have what players for him to join. I figure it's still around 50/50 he stays.

How much of that roster returns if they have to clear cap space for 2 max contracts?

Nets
- under contract beyond this season: Dinwiddie, Crabbe (player option), Harris, LeVert, Allen, Musa, Napier (club option, non-guaranteed), Kurucs, Graham (non-guaranteed)

- $54M in cap space

- currently out of lottery, currently projected #17

Knicks
- under contract beyond this season: DSJ, Knox, Robinson, Ntilikina, Thomas (partially guaranteed), Dotson (partially guaranteed), Trier (club option, non-guaranteed)

- $74M in cap space

- high lottery pick, currently projected #1

LMAO you seriously don't think Brooklyn's roster is much better than the Knicks?

They only been one of the best teams in the league for the last 2 months now

Only $54m in cap room, and that's if they don't bring back Russell, RH-J, Davis, Dudley, and Carroll (all free agents). If Durant is getting $35M+, that leaves $19M to try to bring back some of those guys. Meanwhile, the Knicks have $74M in cap space and do not have any potentially pricey free agents they would be expected to bring back...and potentially the #1 pick. If ownership doesn't scare Durant off, the Knicks could actually be in better position IMO.

The Knicks also have a miserable, no good organizational culture. If KD learned anything from his stint in GS it should be the importance of a positive culture.
