If Melo could embrace being a 6th man, ala Jamal Crawford, dude could be a flame thrower, just waiting to happen. There's no question in my mind he could still average 15 a game off the bench for the next 3-4 years.
I agree.

The guy needs to go to a place with leadership that has a strong hand.

People think that's the Lakers.

I think it's the Spurs.

Didn't you mention this the other day?

He needs to have someone to snap him out of the the delusion that he's still a quality starter.

Plus, he can add to their stranglehold on the mid range game.

Don't think it was me, but I'll gladly take credit if you wanna give it, lol.

I think he would immensely help a team like the Bucks to add a solid scorer on their second unit, but if I'm the Bucks I don't go near him given the makeup of the team. Not enough veteran leadership to help check Melo when needed.

I actually think he'd be kind of fun to see with the Kings too. Given their brand of basketball and wanting to get up and down the court, it could give Melo a ton of clean looks and give him a chance to just get buckets. They're not really concerned with defense, so that suits him too.

Hornets would also be an intriguing option to me too. I think they definitely need another scorer on the team. They're fighting for a playoff spot and he'd help them in that department. They're also more of a half court team which could give him more time with the ball in his hands. The plus side of this is having Tony Parker on the team and that veteran leadership.

Any doubt AD is leaving via trade or free agency? They should have signed back Cousins even if he was not available til January.

The only time they would have a legit top 20 player play with AD in New Orleans

So happy to see more and more players throwing shots at Spo for the way he is handling the rotation @TurnUpTheHeat

Athletes, Cops, Firemen usually hold on to long.

That's what happens when you let your job define you.

With that being said, Melo isn't completely washed.

His problem is, he still thinks he's a #1 or #2.

If he went into the Season trying to fit into a Vince Carter or even Tony Parker kinda support role, he'd have suitors.

But, this Dude still thinks he's a fucking starter.
Couldn't agree more.

by his standards he's still a starter - but his performance ability tells a different story & his inability to accept a lesser role is why my conclusion is retirement. lol

I was holding my breath that he wasn't hurt.

That could have gone differently.
I'm thinking Steph should be a pro at trying to avoid injuries by now :heh:

At what point is this kind of Riley's fault too though? There's a certain point where you get too many rotational guys, where its kind of diminishing returns, no? Spo's put in a really awkward spot.

I agree but my major issue with Spo is inconsistency in his rotation.

Dion had a few DNP-CD, Jones Jr had several, Kelly played 5 minutes saturday and was DNP-CD last night.

Have a consistent rotation, stick to it, and move on.

They have too many rotation players. Need to get rid of 2-3 of them IMO because this will be a shit show when Dragic returns if there are no changes....heck it is already a shit show now

It's fun to speculate.

I mean, this is a Sports board.

But, him going anywhere is just a hopeless dream...

UNLESS....

The Dubs decide to lowball him.

If they open the bank, he won't even take meetings.

It will be Paul George 2.0.

He and his Dad have said it countless times.

All things equal, meaning money, he retires a Dub.

" Klay loves the Bay, no reason for him to look anyplace else, unless the Warriors tell him he’s unwanted or needed anymore. He’s not looking to leave, we all know that.”

“HE DOESN’T NEED TO BE ‘THE GUY,'” MYCHAL THOMPSON TOLD SIRIUSXM NBA RADIO (H/T THE SPORTING NEWS). “HE LOVES PLAYING THERE. HE LOVES PLAYING WITH STEPH AND KD AND THE WHOLE CREW. HE LOVES LIVING IN THE BAY AREA, IT’S A SPECIAL PLACE, AND THEY’RE GOING TO HAVE A BEAUTIFUL, NEW ARENA IN A COUPLE OF YEARS IN SAN FRANCISCO. SO KLAY IS NOT LOOKING TO LEAVE. THAT’S UP TO THE WARRIORS.”

Welp that seals it. Klay to the Cavs to be the main piece of a dynasty

The best recruiting tool you could have is to put up a giant "WITNESS" poster using a picture of Rocco. That's your best option.

I thought they offered him a 2 year/$40mil contract.

During the season. From what I heard, I don't think they ever made any offer in the summer

I think the Pelicans were turned off by the fact they offered a guy who was injured a pretty significant deal, which he declined at the time. If he declines a 2 yr, 40M deal, what can they realistically offer him that he'd accept and not take offense to. To be completely honest, I don't really fault them.

I get that part but after seeing him struggle to get any significant deals in the summer, they should have came back with that offer. Something tells me he accepts that deal in mid July

I'm really thinking, if I had a team with significant cap space, what would be an offer I would have extended to him as a starting point? If the Heat had ample cap space, just hypothetically, what would you offer a guy like Cousins on a deal? I honestly don't know what starting point I would use.

I would probably do something the Pelcians offer but with a team or player option after year 1 or maybe a 3 year deal with player option after the 2nd year

They could have offered it up again during the summer, but that's a pretty good one to get after suffering that kind of injury and he would have gotten to stay with AD which it sounds like what he wanted. And had he shown he was back to his dominant self during those 2 seasons Cousins would have gotten a longer contract afterwards.

@trojanfan12

At the 2:40 mark the reporter asks if he talked to his dad yet. Not reading too much into it, but you can tell the type of basketball relationship him and his dad have. His dad I'm sure is super supportive in a way that tells Klay he should always strive to be better. But as chill as Klay is, I'm not sure if he'd want to hear that every day.

He definitely thought he would get more in the summer for whatever reason. No team is going to offer a guy on a torn Achilles more than that. Should have took it but he still may come out of this as a winner. Depending on how he look this season with the Dubs, this may be a win-win situation for him. Dude likely get a title this year and may still get a contract offer similar to one he turned down.
