If you are going to gut that side of the ball saying play defense or go home in overtime rings more hollow.

I'm glossing over the fluff and get right to the point.

If you feel DEF has been gutted to the degree that 3rd and 10 is now a gimme...we agree to disagree...nothing more to say here.

I have no problem with this. Let both offenses get one crack at it. Just make it for the playoffs.

You have to get to 3rd and 10 to begin with, but thanks for again trying to put words in my mouth.

So you see as many 6-3 games as we did in the 90's? I sure don't. It's glaring how different it is. The league calls way too many PI/ holding now. They want scoring.

So you have no defense for it then. Got it.

Lol why do I need to have a defense for it? You have your dumbass opinion, I have mine. The nfl's way of doing things hurts your faggot feelings, to which I say "tough shit". Get over yourself, clown

And to think if Dee Ford doesn't lineup offside the game doesn't go into OT and the Chiefs are headed to the Super Bowl. That's a bitch.

I just watched the game again (it's also the NFL Network at 3:00 am tomorrow morning). What amazed me is that Dee Ford was totally offisde. CBS has a blue line of scrimmage to show where the ball is and a play starts. The edge of the line was behind his armpit and he was looking down the line at the ball. HE must have a vision problem because he should have seen that everyone else on the Chiefs DL was at least a foot or more behind him. If he has a depth perception issue, then he could look at an angle and his brain would tell him that he's lined up with his team. The real problem is that he was looking into the ear holes of the Patriots OL. Either way, he screwed the pooch and Brady took advantage.

I guess I take it for granted that everyone sees the erosion of defense in the league. Really had no idea some still believe defenses are exactly equal to offenses anymore. Who knew? :noidea:

As annoying as that ended up being as that seemingly decided the AFC champion, it seems rather weak. What do you propose? Remove the sudden death component until the 2nd drive unless it's a safety or INT?

But it doesn't if you lose the flip that's the point a coin can decide two good offensive teams. It's also a team game. Why don't we just allow kickers to go back and forth then save everyones health haha!

The NFL has already restricted the defense enough. Why change anything to take away any more defense? Conditioning, health and attitude make the difference in an NFL OT. The patriotshave shown twice in the past three years that they are a force to be recond with in OT. The Chiefs had no answer for what the Patriots were
doing at the end of regulation or OT. In the last 6 minutes of the game and OT, the patriotsscored two TDs and a FG and the Chiefs 1 TD and a FG. The Chiefs could not score a TD in the last 39 seconds with a 1st and 10 on the Patriots 23 and a time out in hand. So where was the offense? Mahomes threw a pass out of the end zone and Reid kicked a FG with 16 seconds on the clock instead of trying on more shot to the end zone. That alone says that Reid does not trust Mahomes 100% yet. Mahomes could have made a play in 12 or 13 seconds unless he decided to try to run the ball, but another pass attempt mjight have sealed the deal.

KC won the opening tosss and deferred. Why? Didn't they watch the Chargers do the same thing and have Brady eat up half of the first quarter and score a TD. Yesterday, he ate up 8 minutes and 5 seconds and scored. Reid thought he could outcoach BB and he got slapped again.

The good news is the better team won, so we can all take solace in that.

Because... Math? This isn't difficult. A better question is why anyone would receive.

Valid question to which there likely isn't a great answer to. Not one everyone agrees with anyway. It's more a philosophical question. If defenses aren't on equal footing to offenses in today's game is a coin toss still as valid as it once was? If the answer is no then what next is the question. I wouldn't be in favor of going as far as college or anything crazy.

Maybe in post season you give a 5 or 10 min quarter in OT and go to sudden death if it is still tied after that. Make punts and ALL of the game still valid in that process.

Mind you, I'm not saying it's horribly broken, just not balanced.

I think we will see that gradually go closer to the ol' days. That mask-graze on Brady tonight, is something even Brady doesn't want in the league, I guarantee that.

That's not a rule problem, that's a player problem. Jones was blocked and he no chance of doing anything. Brady had thrown the ball and Jones took a shot at him. The rules are simple. If you swing at an opponents head it is Unsportman Like Conduct and a 15 yard penalty. How many times have you seen it in the trenches where a frustrated DL takes a swing at an OL? I agree that Jones missed, but angle the official had must have made it appear that he hit Brady.

Conclusion: Stupid, unnecessary play by Chris Jones that had zero effect on the play and gave the Patriots a free 15 yards and a first down.

Let's not get into replaying every call.

Like Patriots did against the Chargers? 7-0 and you keep the offense of the other team on the sideline in freezing fucking cold. Does that answer your question?

No- this is the dumbest response you could give- especially when the 2nd half has 31 points as a retort. That's exactly why you defer.

How difficult is it to just let both teams have 1 possession? It's like playing the bottom of the 10th and skipping the top.

Why? Because your team didn't win this time? Then we change again if you lose under your new rules? And again? and again? And we keep changing until you win then the rule is OK.

To be fair, that's how every rule ever gets changed. It's money, or other selfish motivations. Mostly money
