I've seen three different bloggers today put up stats showing the Leafs outchanced the Preds, that Nylander was their best offence generator, that the Johnsson-Matthews-Nylander line was the Leafs' best...

I usually follow the numbers but Willy looks like shit. Maybe these chances are just coming from too far out but it's been over a month now and if he's getting as many chances as it seems, what's stopping them from going in? At some point he is going to have to produce points here.

Do we have a good reason at this point to believe that he's never going to "produce points" again? I think you are overreacting here

Two games in sure, five games in, sure, ten games in, sure. He's on pace for a 12 point season at this point. I think it's fair that after all that drama we might expect him to be producing by now. I think you could even argue that the team has not been the same since he entered the lineup. I also don't think that Babs is the best at adjusting, he's stubborn as fuck and things are just not quite right now. Don't get me wrong, I wanted Willie in the lineup but it's not playing out the way any of us thought it would.

We've got over two years worth of data that says he can score in this league though. I'm still inclined to trust that.

I can see both sides. I think criticism is fair at this point, 14 games is enough of a sample size. And I also think his (short) track record warrants optimism.

All we can do is wait and hope that things improve. As a fan of the team, I can only hope he gets untracked. Not even so much for this year but for future years.

You may believe that 14 games "makes it fair" to criticize, that's entirely a personal decision I suppose. My father thinks that 14 minutes is enough

You can trust that and still say he's playing badly right now.

Nobody here's saying the contract was a mistake or anything, he's just been disappointing since his return and once you sign for a salary like that you don't have nearly as long a leash as you did before until it gets noisy.

Sure you can. Can I trust that and say that I don't think he's playing that badly right now?

Of course, but you would be wrong because he isn't scoring 2pts per game and that's what we expect now because we're spoiled shits.

/Internet people are trying to trade Matthews to AZ as we speak lol

Insurance companies can be scum. OK so if I am on a sidewalk and a van going 60 kmh runs me over, yeah, I am going to need some psychological help too.
I get they have processes in place but does at no time someone there take a look at this file and say to themselves "uh, yeah, maybe the 90 year old woman who was run down by a van in a very public attack is someone we should just shut up and pay out without too much hassle"? Where's the common sense lol

/Unless they were just hoping she'd die shortly after the attack and the claim.

John Tavares scores his 300th career goal.

10% of those have come in his 43 games in a Leaf uniform.

Nice milestone, got me thinking

This is what happens during the dog days of the midseason.

Is Johnny T a HOFer?

Related question: How many members of the Leafs current roster will end up in the HOF?

[to fans of other teams, shaddup. We have had so little to talk about for the past 40 years, just let us have our moment]

JT's milestone got me thinking. Looking at his career numbers, they are nice but surprisingly not overwhelming. Highest goal total in a season is 38. Highest points in one season is 86. Not exactly overwhelming. No playoff success, no shiny trophies. Starting to wonder why he got the contract he did.

My take: JT has a HOF chance if he can maintain his current year pace for about 5 years and can get the Leafs to some playoff success. Without that, I am surprisingly thinking no to a HOF.

for the rest of the team, way too early of course to predict but Marleau, Marner, Tavares, Matthews and Rielly all have a chance. So 5 HOFers possible. Wow.
