I am a big Harper fan. Kid has got a chip on his shoulder - but he plays the game harder than anybody.

Machado's a jerk off... yeah. However, if he's at the top of his game - I'm not sure if I care.

I wouldnt go so far as saying Harper plays harder than anyone. I think Mike Trout has that on lock down...

Harper is a good player though. A bit of an asshole but a good player. I would happily take him.

I not only believe the Sox stand zero chance of signing both players, I think they stand zero chance of signing either player. These stories have postseason hype written all over them.

I would agree if they didn’t have so much money. The Sox need a face of their franchise. The cubs success is another reason I think it’s possible. They have always owned the city but it’s only gotten stronger. The Sox haven’t been relevant in a decade. That’s an entire generation of kids growing up. That being said I’ll be surprised if they end up with either

I'm simply going by Reinsdorf's history. What has been his biggest and priciest FA signing to date.....think we have to go back to the 90's and Albert Belle for that. I have no problems with signing either player, there is a need for either of both of them. I just don't see it happening whatsoever.

I'm a bit late in following up on this, but as I'm sure most of you already know by now, Harper turned down a 10 year $300mil deal with his soon-to-be-ex-team, the Nationals. Now seriously, does anyone here really think Reinsdorf is going to dip into his wallet and pay Harper even more than that, and that's assuming Harper would even be interested in joining our club? Seriously? I'm pretty sure the Sox can come up with much more creative and productive usage of such funds.

look SOMEbody is going to sign him. and perhaps he didn't re-sign with the nats because he didn't want to play for them anymore and would sign for that amount someplace else. and yes, i believe reinsdork could be an owner who would sign him.,

I'll only believe it when I see it. Until then, I'm filing this potential signing in my "Not a Chance in Hell" folder.

The chances are low but it would make sense. The Sox are probably ready to shoot for a wild card in 2020 (not next year). So signing a 26 year old stud to a 10 year deal means they are here and still in their prime for 2020-2023, which is the window.

Sox may be longshots but they should try their damnedest. Even maybe overpay (not both but one or the other)

I have had anxiety all morning, reading every article I can find...

I want desperately not to get my hopes up, but it is happening.

Harper is possibly my favorite player in baseball. I've followed his career since he was 16. Guy might be a bit of a prick... but guess what? A prick who plays as hard/passionately as Bryce Harper can be a great combination.

Plus, I think he could do some serious wreckage in our power friendly ball park.

Machado is kind of an asshole, but hell... If you can get that kind of a package. Give me a break. However, I'll be more than happy with just Harper.

All things being equal, I'd still prefer we sit out this year with the mega-signings and sign someone like Michael Brantley, then go for broke with Nolan Arenado when he becomes a FA after the '19 season. I thought I read somewhere that the Rockies had an option on him for another year, but MLB is showing that he's a FA next year.

Arenado is a proven bat and the best defensive 3b in baseball, a dire position of need for our club. He's a masher who strikes out a bit, but nothing insane like Moncado, and he has no problems taking walks. Obviously his career stats are better at Coors Field than away from it, but it's not like the differences are night and day. In the last 4 years, he has averaged 40 dingers and 126 ribbies. Fucking incredible numbers. And a perennial Gold Glover to boot.

in the American league, yolmer was ranked 3rd in fielding and 5th in hitting. not sure why you characterize the position as being in dire need.

Ok, so Yolmer is almost as good as Arenado. Check.

Oh, and I want to clarify some stuff here. Let me make one thing perfectly clear...I am NOT a crook! Oh wait, that's my Richard Nixon impression. What I want to make perfectly clear is if we by chance sign Harper, something you guys may already know I'm not in favor of doing, any time ANY player dons a White Sox uniform, I become his biggest fan. I'll root big time for Harper to be the stud that helps carry us to a title, or at the very least, helps us become a major factor in a number of future playoffs. Just because I'm not in favor of signing a particular player doesn't mean I won't root for him big time, all the time. That's how I roll.

Now as to Sanchez, it is my desire that he remains a White Sox. In fact, my hope is by 2020, Yolmer Sanchez, Leury Garcia, and Adam Engel are all still on the White Sox roster, but strictly in the role of pine brothers. All three of these players can make some big time contributions off the bench, but none of them are really starter material, at least not for a ballclub expecting to annually contend for some deep postseason activities for the next X number of years. I like Yolmer, I like the way he handles himself, I like the positive energy he brings to the club every day. I'm just not crazy about him as a starter.

... I'm just not crazy about him (sanchez) as a starter.

then that's your problem. just because he was introduced to you as all-around kind of player doesn't mean he can't be a starter. he HAS BEEN a starter! and i'd say he handled being a starter pretty well. the sox are NOT in dire need of a third baseman. they have some dire needs, but that's not one of them. if they can 'reasonably' upgrade at third then fine. but they are NOT desperate there.
