It's a bit north of target, the exit from 43 to Philadelphia rd pretty much took you to their parking lot. It's a big place, I'm sure it will sit empty for years.

That's gotta be it. I remember it was a huge deal when they started building it because it was going to bring a bunch of medium skill/decent wage jobs to the area.

That place was ginormous. I can't even begin to imagine what could possibly go in there in it's place.

They are shutting down the engine and transmission factory about 2 miles from my house. They just expanded it a few years ago too.
GM spent a quarter billion or so earlier this decade "retrofitting" the line at Oshawa so it could flex easily for production of different platforms.

Today they're saying they're shutting Oshawa because they mostly assemble IC cars there and they're pivoting away from IC cars.

And yet they produce the Volt at the Lordstown Assembly in OH and spent a ton retrofitting that line to produce that vehicle which is an EV that sells well but they're shutting that one too.

It's almost like the problem isn't so much unions and lineups so much as it is idiotic execs who spend poorly and then have to make up for it later while collecting their 8 figure bonuses.

Just wait in 5 years when EV battery tech hasn't improved much and gas goes up to the point where people can't buy pickups like crazy anymore and GM is looking to build small efficient IC cars again.

The Maryland plant builds engines and transmissions for the full size SUVs and Pickups. The cars they are supposedly going to "focus" on now. Maybe they are just making shit up.

Saw a number of 15 thousand jobs.

Their plant in St. Catharines does that as well. I'm guessing they figured that closing two major Ontario plants would cause a shitstorm so sacrificed the MD one instead so they could show they're still committed to Canadian manufacturing.

I was thinking of something more nefarious, but point taken.
I know, but it's kinda funny that the US is one of the few major economies without a state-run global news service. UK, France, China, Russia, Qatar, Canada etc. all have one.

I feel truly lucky to be Canadian but can we please get one decent candidate for PM? We have a sitting PM who is in over his head and his biggest challenger is leaning towards being yet another neo-con who spreads disinformation in an effort to appeal to the lower (not quite lowest) denominators.

There hasn't been any one candidate I've felt truly comfortable with since before Harper.

I thought Justin Trudeau was going to be "that guy" Kenny, but it turns out he's just style with very little substance (as they like to say in Alberta, all sizzle and no steak). All Scheer does is lash out at the Liberals without any clear plan on what he would do differently. From a provincial standpoint, BC needs to ensure that John Horgan doesn't get another term, I didn't think BC could elect a worse premier than Christy Clark, but here we are.
