I thought Justin Trudeau was going to be "that guy" Kenny, but it turns out he's just style with very little substance (as they like to say in Alberta, all sizzle and no steak). All Scheer does is lash out at the Liberals without any clear plan on what he would do differently. From a provincial standpoint, BC needs to ensure that John Horgan doesn't get another term, I didn't think BC could elect a worse premier than Christy Clark, but here we are.

I never wanted Trudeau as a candidate. I hate when name alone gets you to, or near, the top of the political sphere. He had no business being put forward as a candidate. He started gaining some traction with me based on most of his cabinet selections. Some of his ideas were good and he made some efforts to undo some of Harper's shit-headedness, so that was OK.

But he has proven ineffective at getting things done. Also, many of his action items fail to fall within any big picture plan that I can see.

Like I said, he's in over his head.

On my provincial level I've been pretty damn happy with Notley's NDP. The conservatives in this province have turned into a bunch of lazy dipshits who think everything is owed to them. Peter Lougheed has likely been rolling in his grave since he was put in there.

Paul Martin was the last decent party leader and he was stained by the sponsorship scandal by the time Chretien finally moved over for him.

Harper governed well in a minority. That era was probably the last time Canada was governed particularly well. I didn't think he was some Satan spawn as a PM as the left loved to paint him as, just as I don't think Junior is as the right love to paint him as, but he didn't do much to move the country anywhere and he was really unprepared to deal with Junior's popularity come election time. He was kind of like Hillary Clinton - both of their opponents knew that what the other was saying regarding their country to be made "great again" was bullshit, that we were already great, but they had no idea how to actually counter that other than boring politics.

Sadly, unless Doug Ford completely whips Ontario for Scheer I don't see any way Trudeau's gone in a year and I'm not sure Scheer would be any better anyway. Should've given the leadership to the Shark Tank guy.

saw an old cracker on facebook say "the mexicans are shitting on the lettuce" :ohwell:

In a Nov. 1 statement, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Scott Gottlieb announced that the FDA, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Arizona Department of Agriculture launched an investigation into the outbreak. According to their assessment, which sampled irrigation canal water collected in the Yuma region, “the most likely way the romaine lettuce became contaminated was from the use of water from the irrigation canal, since the outbreak strain was not found in any of the other samples collected in the region.”

Despite the warnings, rumors swirled that President Donald Trump consumed the contaminated lettuce in his Thanksgiving meal, after Caesar salad made an appearance on the menu. In a statement, the White House dissuaded rumors, claiming that no romaine was served, but Kummer said he’s not so sure.

“Any idiot who would look directly at an eclipse when every warning said not to would of course put romaine in his salad,” Kummer said. “[Trump] would think it was a hoax: 'Food safety? Who cares?'”

Youngtown is in a Democratic and labor stronghold, where Trump won over a surprising number of voters two years ago because of his promise to bring work back to the U.S.

At a rally near the plant last year, Trump talked about passing by big factories whose jobs "have left Ohio," then told people not to sell their homes because the jobs are "coming back. They're all coming back."

Sen. Sherrod Brown, an Ohio Democrat, called GM's announcement move "corporate greed at its worst."

Brown, a longtime labor union ally, said in a statement that "the company reaped a massive tax break from last year's GOP tax bill and failed to invest that money in American jobs."

Shocking!!

Companies generally have one goal. They're out to make bank. Just because you made them $100M last year doesn't mean they won't pack up and ship out for an extra $10 M on January 1st.

The only thing that is surprising about this is that people are surprised about this.

Unless their source of income is tied to your land they have no reason to stick around.

Oh, come on.

Not only does refusing to air an interview with an actual expert on the subject underserve the population the story is supposed to inform, it's a colossal waste of a scientist's time to have her leave what she's doing, have a three-hour interview, not pay her, and not air the interview at all. She has things to do. Don't waste her time at the very least.
