Yesterday was even worse, after two miserable holes I went to the driving range.

First two swings on the range sucked, ballooned up in the air about 150 yds out and faded right. Decided "fuck it", took more of a back swing and the drive went straight. Was able to repeat it about 12 out of 14 tries. Went back on the course and hit some nice drives.

I have a tee time later this afternoon, I'll see if i can repeat the improvement.

I've basically said fuck it since mid July...I've been chipping and putting, but in this heat, I've backed off hitting balls...normally hit on Sunday morning (after I've played on Sat) and warm up before the round.

Driver is still iffy, getting it around the course and most rounds are 82-86...that included a +1 37 front, and a +12 48 back two weeks ago. Later this fall when it cools down, I'll really work on my driver swing and see if I can get more consistency...I've seen some improvement with my irons from the work I put in this spring.

I don't know when it happened or how, but I lost my ability to play a good round of golf this season. I started the season off great and was trending in the right direction, but then something happened and I can't figure out my swing anymore. it is very disappointing.

I think things are getting back on track, but really nothing feels predictable. I line up my shot and the ball won't go where it is supposed to go. It sucks.

It happens...it's almost always in the fundamentals somewhere. When the ball is going in multi-directions...you're not repeating something...if it's going in the same direction just not where you want it, normally breaking your swing down to a short pitch (30 yds or so, with SW, something with enough loft that you must have some wristco@k to hit 30 yds) can help you find it.

It's basically a miniature golf swing, if you have a flaw, it will normally show up in this swing as well.

I have a small slab off my sunroom ...it's a grilling pad basically. It's been in a functional but not pretty state for 4 yrs...this week I bought a island kit, new grills, etc. so this weekend I think I'll be working on getting it put together...maybe Sunday afternoon golf if I get it done on Sat.

Yeah, that's what I do. The guy I go to for lessons had me doing a drill for a while. You address the ball like you want it to look like at impact (80% weight forward), you take a real short backswing (need to end it with the club parallel to the ground), and then complete the swing. It's amazing the distance you can get with that type of swing. I got my 9 iron dialed into 100 yard with a swing like that.

You might want to think about taking a lesson to have someone look at the swing. Club pro can probably tell you what's wrong and how to fix it in like 10 minutes. After that it's on you. I'm finally out playing again after breaking my collarbone and while it sucks that I basically missed the entire season not having a club in my hand for 8 weeks and then only being able to take a short swing did wonders for my game. My problem (like a lot of other weekend hacks) is rolling the wrist instead of getting a good hinge. When I could finally take something resembling a swing I just worked on that. Now I'm hitting my irons better than I ever had. Went out last weekend and was playing bogey golf (only got about 9 in and the course is ridiculously flat and straight so that's not too good) and if I could have actually got a decent chip or putt every now and again it would have been better than that.

Took the entire week off and planned to play golf most days but the weather wouldn’t cooperate with me.

Finally got out yesterday and was just killing it with my driver. I had a chance to eagle two par 5s. Got on with an easy pitch on a par 4. Pulled 3 balls out of my bag when I started and only lost one. It was a good day.

Still struggle a bit with my long irons. I have a tendency to either top the ball or push-fade.

Got a call back from Calloway about my cracked Epic Driver. They are replacing it with a new Rogue Driver for free!

Caught a big fish today.

Hit a booming drive on a short par 4. I normally land 100-120 from the green on this hole. Ball ended up roughly 40 yards from the pin. Pulled my lob wedge and opened the face up hoping to hit a high flop shot and stick it close enough to the pin that I could give my chance for birdie.

Ball went up and dropped straight down into the cup. Nothing but net. I’ve never hit a hole in one. This was the best shot I’ve ever hit.

Couldn’t hit the fairway or save par for the rest of the day but that one hole made my whole weekend.

Nice!

I've never had a hole in one either, never saw it go in the hole, but holed my 2nd shot on a par 5 once (dbl eagle?), and I've had a couple of hole out eagles from the fairway.

I’ve holed some bump-and-run chips before but never a flop shot or a pitch from a distance. What makes it extra cool was talking shit to the people I was playing with. We always say stuff like “Watch this shot. This is going in the hole.” Then it happened. People probably heard us yelling from the other side of the course.

I'll bet! Of the 3 shots I've holed from some distance, I've only seen 1 go in the hole and it is a great feeling.

One I had a close up look at recently...#9 par 4 on our home course...our match is very close thru 8 I'm up 1 stroke actually (we pay $5 front, $5 back, $5 overall on low score)...buddy hooks his drive left. He has a gap thru the trees towards the green but it was tight. He opts for the pitchout laterally to the 150 yd marker...still away so he plays his 4th from the fairway.

I'm about 80 yds out after a great drive....buddy hits an 8i...lands about 5' short of the hole, takes one bounce checks and drops it for par! I still took the front, by making par myself, but he put the pressure on with that shot.

League ended last night without playing the scramble cause the course got too wet for carts. I was just able to get back to playing last week so I missed some more time with my injury.

It's wood cutting and upland bird hunting season in the fall so I haven't played past Sept in many years. This year I hope to still get to the course a few more times. It's so perfect right now and it's been a blast this year. I also learned that when you don't have your wallet with you, it's real easy to spend $700.00 in a few months! That's not bad actually, me and Phil are kinda trunk slammers so it's mostly beers....coupla small snags at the pro shop...league dues.

Played nine yesterday, started off pretty well but the last four holes were double bogies...damn.

Gonna try messing with my grip. I currently use a baseball grip, I don't think that grip gives me the best control of the club.

I won't make it to the range today before my tee time, but if people aren't right behind us, I'm going to try an interlocking grip and see how that feels.

Not sure why I'm messing with it this late in the season, except that I'm tired of shitty shots.

The new grip worked much better. Between that and a slight change in my back swing, I got the driver working again.

However....still shot a 44 over nine. On seven I must have put it in the water for a double bogie and on nine I tried a little change again and sent my second shot into the pond and scored another double bogie.

I'll look at the bright side, a 44 on a windy day is still better than what I was shooting.

At the turn we decided to get a cart, and then play slowed to a crawl, so we headed back to the clubhouse for beverages after number thirteen.

It's taken until the end of September, but we finally a weekend under 90 degs.

I've been preoccupied building a grilling pad island, haven't done any practicing so I'll get a few balls in today after work today.

Just hope to keep it under 90.

I started with an interlock grip. When I changed to a Vardon, my game improved imediately.

Take the interlock grip and then open your hands and look down on the grip. You have six fingers holding it. Take the Vardon and you've got 7. Lighter grip pressure is always a plus.

Someone should have told Nicklaus.

I noticed yesterday that I'll forget to interlock my grip and end up with the Vardon grip. For now,the interlock grip seems to do a better job of keeping my wrists quite when taking the club back, which is key for me to hit the ball straight.

Might have been the last round of the season. 44 degrees, windy, with a slight drizzle. Shot a 42 on the front and came back in with a 44 for an 86. Not a great game, but not bad for me. Found my backswing with the driver on the fourth hole which helped. What didn't help was the wind, there were times I hit the driver flush and i don't think it went 150 yards.

Took a cart, should have walked, I would have been warmer.

Good round!

Geeze...it's been a few weeks at least since I played. Lake Arrowhead was my last round and that was OCT 13

If mid/hi 50s are okay...weather is still conducive to play here really right through DEC.

I've been on my new grills a lot the last month. I might try to get out this weekend.
