No question high payroll teams have a huge advantage. But as posted there have been plenty of high payroll teams who haven't had the success the Red Sox have had over the past 13 years. Dodgers had the highest payroll for the previous 4 years, how'd that work out? Yankees came up empty countless seasons when they had the highest payroll.

So you have to give them credit for using their high payroll better than other teams over the years.
Oh, definitely. They spent well. I think the Giants failure is a bigger event than the Red Sox success.

I wish MLB had a good salary cap. Both a min and a max. Must be above 100 million but under 200 million. So Tampa couldn't spend 71 million less than league average as they did this year.

Not always, but they certainly have the advantage.

If someone knew nothing about baseball, but had to place a bet on who would win the world series this year, most would choose the Red Sox. That is if they had the payroll info for all teams. The smart money is on the team that is 90 million over league average.
i think most would have taken houston going into the season

Sure as shit didn't see that coming. Thought Boston had a chance to win, but definitely didn't see them dominating the defending champs like that.

Bright side, for at least another year, the Yankees are the last repeat world champs. :)

No argument, baseball is totally fucked up. People like to point to the A's but when have the A's actually won anything of significance?

A's and Rays have demonstrated an ability to compete despite being towards the bottom in payroll and have fielded some of the best teams in baseball some years. The postseason is just a crapshoot.

Drafting players, trades, developing players in the farm system, staying healthy through the long grind of the regular season, and get really lucky, are still important than ever. The postseason is a whole different animal. I do feel that there should be some sort of salary cap structure but just because you have a high payroll doesn't necessarily mean you'll win it all. Just ask the Dodgers and the 2016-2017 Red Sox.

Congrats, Red Sox fans.

Thought the series would at least go 6, but a few breaks here and there made the difference.

I haven't gotten to see a lot of the Astros this year. But from what I saw in this postseason alone, Alex Bregman is one of the best third basemen I have seen in awhile. Dude was making play after play. Fun to watch

They have done amazing with their payrolls. No doubt that they are run well.

Wrong, most including many Redsox fans thought Houston was going to win the series.

Being able to compete and winning the World Series are two different things. As I said the A's have had success but it's limited to a few playoff appearances.

But you made mad sportsbook cash by betting on the Sox, right?

No way man...us true blue fans never doubted for a second, even while you debbie downers were looking for excuses as to how or why they could have lost the series

You didn't read my post. I said if they knew nothing of baseball except the payrolls of each team.

Watching that made me think that it's finally time to break out the champagne. Watching this scene for clinching a division title that was a foregone conclusion for months is so stupid. Other sports don't break out the champagne for advancing to the 2nd round of the playoffs, baseball is stupid this way.

I made some but not that much because I sacrificed a lot of it on my Longhorns.

By the time I realized I need to do some sacrificing for the Stos, it was too late. :gaah:
