I agree with you. I have always been an advocate of weapons for the QB position. There have been very few QB's in the history of the NFL that were so good they made their weak weapons better. Dak may have the tools but his rookie season was too easy. Zeke rushed for 1000 yards on 1st down. That means that Dak rarely had to deal with 2nd/3rd and long. For lack of a better word it was Madden easy. Now he has to learn the ins and outs of the QB position. It's as if this season is his true sophmore season and sadly he has shit on the outside to work with.

Yep, when you have a QB on a rookie deal that's playing pretty well or at least showing signs...as a GM you have to make that investment pay off because you have the luxury of investing in other areas for a few seasons...SEA and more recently PHI has shown you can win a SB with a QB on a rookie deal.

The Rams are making the most of it, but DAL is being held back by contracts in the past...lot of dead money on the books this yr.

For years I've been arguing with Cowboys fans how they are in "cap hell" and how they screwed the team by restructuring contracts and kicking the can down the road and that is exactly why we haven't signed any noteworthy FAs. The replies were usually based on something along the lines of "but they got under the cap" which just doesn't make any sense when the whole way they got under the cap was by restructuring even more contracts. Many just don't understand anything other than what is right in front of their nose when it comes to the cap and Jerry certainly falls into this category. The good news for Cowboy fans is once we get rid of the disastrous Romo contract after this year and also Dez's contract we'll be looking really good going forward even with paying guys like Zeke, Dak and Lawrence...unless Tyron Smith's back acts up and that $27M dead money hit comes due this year!!!

and from the media snippets I hear from him Stephen Jones is just like him.
Thankfully he is not like Jerry, but he seems to be getting a little more like him as he ages...

I thought Philly and the Vikes had the best rosters in the NFL last year. The Rams are right there with them this year. 2 of 3 have the young Qb. Wouldn’t it be crazy if the NFL started doing that. I mean if you aren’t Aaron Rodgers, Brees , or Brady by year 4, you get cut. Then there is no market for the Staffords , Cousins, etc.

So...the reason Minny wasn't considered a stronger SB contender last year (by most fans) was mostly because they did not have a good QB. They rectified that by getting Cousins, who while he isn't great is a heck of a lot better than Keenum, to hopefully put them over the top. So I'm not sure your first and last sentences mesh with each other...

The Cowboys are going to be sitting pretty next year with cap space. I am pretty sure they will need to lock up Zeke next year. I doubt he is going to play the 5th year of that deal if the trend continues with the rest of the top players on rookie deals. They only question people will be asking is what kind of money will Dak be asking for. I am pretty sure he will not have the leveral to hold out so I think unless he picks up his player he will play the last year of his rookid deal. The Cowboys can be major players next year of they do things right.

How long can they keep their current team ( core). Minny is an exception because they have awesome young players all over the field. Their skill guys are all underpaid.

Not to mention that will never happen. I meant that hypothetically.

What happens to Frederick's salary if he can't return?

Not much FA help next yr for WR. There are a few Safeties and DTs though that look enticing.

He was on the game 1 roster so this year salary is guaranteed. The rest of his deal has all the same rules. If he cannot play I believe there is medical settlement that can be reached to lessen the cap hit.

If he retires after this year they take a $16M cap hit. All in 2019 or split over 2 years depending on when.

Ouch..... Isn't there an option where the hit would be less since it is a non football injury?

Not sure. I think all of his "outstanding" cap hit is from restructuring his contract. He already received all of that cash so I'm not sure how you can get out of having that hit your cap.

Fuck I hate the Cap.

In case anybody didn't know that.

You can't afford to play the game you have no biddness owning a team playing it.

And not a single one could buy up a legal roster and guarantee a SB winner. Not even King of Seattle. And I honestly doubt he would if he could.

Kill the Cap.

The cap is good for the game. It allows for parity something that would not happen otherwise. If there was no cap the richest teams would just buy championships.

The richest couldn't buy up all the talent.

I guess you like communism too?

Communism? The comparison makes zero sense.

And yes the richest teams could buy up the necessary talent. No team is going to get pro-bowlers at every position but they could fill the key positions with the best talent.

Paul Allen could. It would ruin the game. You’re just for it cause Dallas is super rich. Jacksonville, Baltimore, Arizona, etc etc all down the shitter... forever
