The Cummins B engine will run forever.

The little Italian 4 cylinder CRD truck engine Jeep put in Liberty has become legend, too. It even had piston sleeves to easily rebuild after a few hundred thousand miles. It was a million mile engine. The only problem it had was producing so much torque it would tear-up the converter.

Unfortunately, the market let Europe get way ahead of us on new diesels. Even this shitty Jag has 700 flb of torque. Why not in a truck??

UPS used to use VM Motori engines, those were junk. They went back to gas, in those step vans. I spent many a night putting 3 new cylinder heads/gaskets on them.

Edit.. I guess I shouldn't say they were junk. They were probably OK but not in that Stop/go application.

Alright, I've been looking at trucks for like 10 weeks now and have a pretty good idea of reality.


Worst: Tundra. Worst mileage, loudest, interior is childish, kinda' slow. The Toyota tech control is stupid.

Nissan: didn't check out that one.

Silverado was ok. Cheap interior to match price. Not bad.

F150 feels like quality. The 3.5 Ecoboost is by far the best modern engine for a truck or car. I just think they over-did the hush and power steering because it still doesn't feel right. The driver is just not connected to the road.
The Raptor handled nicely, but I'm not paying 65k for a stupid truck.

Best: Ram1500 with Ecodiesel. It handled right, got the best mileage, felt powerful and the saddle leather interior is sa-weet! It wasn't as quiet as the F150 but all I did hear was the engine growl...not wind or road noise.
I like the optional toolbox thingies on the outside of the bed, too. I have all kinds of shit to keep in those.

Conclusion: Meh, maybe I'll get another SUV. Shit will get all wet back there.

I wonder why when the 3.5 makes more torque, gets better mileage, etc? I test drove all those and it felt strong as hell. Apparently, they have problems, eh?

Taxing a 6 to get all that out of it must really shorten the life? I didn't get that far with my thinking because i still hate the handling so much.

I wrote all that because I test drove a Ram1500 Ecodiesel today and thought it was great.

Maintenance cost. When those EcoBoost need work you can figure a small fortune if it's not still under warranty.

How much extra $$$ is the Ecodeisel over the 5.7 Hemi? Seems to me you'll have to put a shit load of miles on that thing just to break even. The Hemi has serious balls, sounds great and with the variable displacement technology gets decent MPG if you lay off the gas pedal.

I'm an inch away from buying an SUV and I've pretty much decided I'll get a 3 to 4 year old Tahoe. No fucking way I'm spending 60K on a new one when I can get a low miles 14' or 15' for half of that. The Chevy 5.3 is the best small block V-8 on the market for power, and MPG IMO and a loaded Tahoe is real nice ride. I'll just keep my beat up old Ram 2500 for the heavy duty work and plowing and use the Tahoe to tow my work trailer around unless the job calls for something nasty.

I haven't heard anything good about the Ford ecoboost up here. A few boys I know got one and say the power and the MPG were both over stated. Kinda like when my good buddy bought the supposedly powerful V-6 1/2 ton Chevy pick up. It went OK when it was empty, but load it with 10 sheets of plywood or sheetrock and it ran like had asthma.

The big 6 my buddy had was real low on torque relative to the HP. The 5.3 is plenty strong to tow or haul some shit, not that I would be loading the back of it with sheetrock.
