Yes I’m positive, they save $91M on this year’s tax bill by cutting and stretching him. It’s going to happen, good riddance.

I still don't think its a certainty they stretch him outright though. Even having that 9 mil number on the books for 3 years hurts their roster building too much. Their best option is to trade him to a team with cap space which will still cost them some assets down the road (teams won't take him for free). There's only a couple of teams with cap room that might do it though (Chicago, Brooklyn, etc). Maybe they can do some kind of partial buy out and stretch the rest

Melo has a no trade clause, so basically unless he agrees to go to that team, the Thunder are handcuffed. With the signing of PG, they're going to be over the cap anyways, so having Melo's 26M off the books next year doesn't clear any cap room for them. If you think about it from Melo's perspective, it doesn't really help him at all to facilitate a trade somewhere. He has basically 3 options at this point:

1) Get stretched by OKC, become a free agent and can sign with any team he wants.
2) Get traded by OKC to another team of his choice for which he remains. But team trading for him would have to give up assets in return.
3) Get traded by OKC to another team, then seek a buyout. In this scenario he would lose some money on the buy-out.

The best option that gives him the most money and the most freedom, is option 1. I don't see a scenario in which he waives his no-trade clause.

Forgot about his no trade clause.

Stop shooting the fucking ball
I think Melo is solidly in that class of being a really talented player who is also a major loser.
I remember when he got into a deal with Gene Simmons to buy some kind of racing team when he first hit the NBA...definitely proved to me the guy was not focused on making himself the best player he could be.

I read they're still working with Melo on potential trade options too. But they've notified Melo that one way or another he won't be apart of the team next year.

After the exit interview he gave there was no way he was going to be a part of this team. He still thinks hes an A list player.

Word is Houston is looking at him as an option. That would be great for the Warriors if he chooses Houston, LOL.

Figure it will be the Rockets or Lakers. He is a banana-boater, so I think it will be LA, but the Rockets are better right now and he could fill the Ariza role offensively (but not defensively).

I would love for Melo to be on the Heat.....so long as it's a trade involving Whiteside (highly unlikely with Adams being there) or Tyler Johnson (more likely). TJ is overpaid for the next 2 years, but it gives OKC another quality player given that they're cash strapped and can't sign any other quality players.

Anthony to sign with the Warriors next

It makes sense for everyone involved

Him and Cousins being on that team together would open the race back up I think.
