If you're going to classify Steph as a 2, virtually 1/2 of the PG's in the NBA would lose their title as well. Any guard who's primary job is to score the ball would be eliminated. Dame, Russ, Kyrie, IT, Lowry, Kemba, Holiday, etc, would all lose their titles as a PG.

Well they all suck anyway

The only good, TRUE PG's are Oscar, Stockton, Muggsy Bogues, Nash, Isiah, the Glove, Doris Burke, and Mo Cheeks.

Honorable mention to my homie from Run TMC, Timmy Hardaway

What would you call Curry if not a PG? A SG?
With the rise of positionless basketball, he's just a guard. Another poster said it well, there's really 3 positions/player types now. Guards, wings, and bigs.

Yes, he fits the classic 2-guard profile, doesn't he? I mean, I get what you're saying, that on the Warriors, there really isn't a classic PG on the roster. But Durant handles the point about half the time, himself

Not a knock on Steph, he's the greatest shooter in history.

But, no....

Because he's not a traditional pg.

Ffs.....he doesn't even lead his own team in assists.

Smart AND beautiful

And Klay Thompson?

The Warriors offense is very fluid but unless we are going to redefine positions as City said into guards, swings, and bigs, we kinda have to assign a position to them.

I have a hard time saying that Steph Curry is more like Michael Jordan than John Stockton.

Well said...Shaq might very well be the last great true center this league will see

I think, at the end of his career, his stats will look more like Jordan's than Stockton's.

Now, I'm a busy man, so I don't have time to check the projections on that

2 time league MVP. 3 time NBA champ. Arguably the greatest shooter of all time.

Magic is still the king. And Oscar Robertson is probably No. 2. But is there a PG you would put above Steph after that? Nash? Stockton?
A top 10 for sure.

I think Irving is better as a PG(passer, ball-handler, distributor), but Curry is the best shooter I've ever seen!

Never trust anyone who thinks the Earth is flat. What the fuck did dook teach him his 1 year in Durham?

Right now Curry has a higher career APG than Jerry West and Gary Payton. It's hard to say what a "pure PG" is. Curry has arguably revolutionized the position. All the PG's you will see come after him will not be consider "pure PG's". At least not anytime soon. All the guards that are coming out of the NBA have a similar skill set to Curry or are trying to emulate it.

The Pure PG argument is a weak one because basketball is always evolving. Positional needs and skill sets are changing. Is Dirk a pure PF? He didn't bang down low. He didn't rebound or defend at a high level. He didn't set a ton of screens. But he's clearly one of the best PF's to ever have lived.

Well I see Jerry West as more of Steph kind of player back in that time so I agree. I wouldn’t say Payton was a big distributor and he wasn’t much of a shooter. Hard to label. But Magic, Stockton and Kidd even CP3 and Rondo are guys that imo are “pure PG’s”. Their job is to find the open man and make the right basketball play, not huge scorers but they could and they could rebound. All-around PG’s, no weaknesses. Times have changed, you can take that away from those guys but you also can take it away from guys today.

All I know Steph plays point guard and he could be top 3 of all-time someday but he isnt in my top 5 at this point, too early. The best shooter at all-time from any position though.

Yeah absolutely. I'm the biggest Steph fan and even I don't have him top 3, or even top 5 yet. Still think that's premature. Isiah is criminally underrated because of the beef him and Jordan had. Payton was a world class defender which puts him over the top right now. I have West at 3 and Stockton just a bit ahead of Steph only because of longevity. Again if Steph has 5-7 more great years, I think there would be a huge debate about him and West at 3, with potentially Steph getting the nod because of Championships and MVP's.

LOL

I'm interested in seeing 10 better. I'll wait.

Magic
Kidd
Payton
Oscar
IT
Stockton
Nash
West

Ok, he barely makes it in the top 10 with him and Chris Paul making the last 2 spots.

I think Nash and Curry are a great comparison. Nash is probably a little better at passing and Curry is definitely better at creating his own shot. Both incredible shooters, both not too great on defense. I would say Curry is better though, and not too many star PG's can say they have 3 titles.

And you can win with just playing primarily guards and wings.

I think at this point I. Thomas and Curry are close. Curry's numbers are much better, but that's due to the influence of the 3 point shot and a little bit of inflated stats of the modern era.

In terms of their impact on the NBA, both were roughly the 3rd to 5th best player in the league at their peak. Steph happened to win a title when he was at his peak, and then by the time he won 2 more, he was no longer the best player on his own team.

Isiah at one point was the 4th or so best player in the league, and then after his peak, the Pistons won a title. But he was always the best player on his team.

Curry will surpass him though.

Both are better than Kidd and Nash.
