That's a good analogy. I don't see the classic center returning to the game anytime soon if ever.

I have given some thought to how players like Ewing and Kareem would work if placed in today's version of the game? I honestly think they would struggle and have less of an impact.

Sure. He's not Jason Kidd certainly. But if I am asked to identify him as a specific position then it would be PG.

I guess I am hanging onto bias with this. When I think PG... I think Stockton, Kidd, Kevin Johnson etc.

Not top 3 yet, but I am long past doubting this guy. Granted most of my doubting him came from Jonny Flynn and Rubio. Really would have helped my mental state had Curry busted out of the league.

All that being said. He entered the league as very injury prone and a sieve at defense. He put in the work to fix his recurring ankle injuries and has improved his defense to where he is more than adequate. At this point betting against Curry ending up as the 3rd best PG all time is a bad bet. Dude is at the top of the game right now and still improving every year.

Final Curry thoughts, I hope he chokes on his damn mouth guard. I will never be a fan of this guy because of his antics with the mouth guard, it is disgusting and I hope one day a guy getting covered in his drool while he acts like a jackass knocks him the fuck out. Nobody will do it because who could survive the wrath that Green would rain down on that persons testicles, but still a nice thought.

Sure. But they played in a different era.

John Stockton averaged 1.5 3 point attempts per game. Perimeter shooting just didn't matter back then like it does today.

This thread is a huge semantics argument about being a "Pure PG".

If you really want to classify it as a guy who facilitates for his team, has high assist totals and gets his teammates involved then Lebron should really be considered the 3rd best PG of all time, if not higher. Dude has legit been a PG all his career, just defined at another position. Everything you want from a PG, he's done all his career. If Lebron wanted to average 10+ assists a game for his career, or more, he could have EASILY done it.

Wherever he winds up in people's lists, his impact on the game can't be questioned. What other player in the last 20 years changed the game more than Curry did? LeBron's the greatest player since Jordan because of all that he has accomplished, but did he change the game more than Curry?

    It isn't difficult at all.

Curry has better stats on arguably the most talented team of all time. He is a better player at it isn't really debateable. Go ahead and start a poll if you want, but even the Celtic fans who aren't complete homers are taking Curry over Kyrie.

I Asked for stats supporting your claim and Kyrie is a better passer, and you posted a bunch of stats where Curry is better than Kyrie. None of which suggest what you want them to. Kyrie is not a true PG.

If I had to put Curry into a position, it would be sg.

    Why, because of his size?

    This is positionless basketball....

That's like saying Ben Simmons is a power forward even though he facilitates the offense.

Draymond does the same for the Warriors.

    Curry is a guard.

I don't see him as the pg in the "traditional " meaning of the term.

I think the Murray/Jokic dynamic is sorta similar to what goes on in Golden State and Philly.

Murray is a sg, in a pg body.

    Jokic is their Point Center.

So, I think it's unfair to categorize Curry as playing the same position as Magic, Stockton, Non-midget Thomas.

    The game is played differently.

So, obviously he's not going to make anyone's top 3 list by the old school definition of what a pg is.

As I said, if I was asked to name a specific position I would say PG. Using modern terminology then he is a guard.

    Agree.

Part of the problem is the terminology.

I can only speak for myself...

But for me, Kidd, Stockton, Ben, Nash are pg's.

    They set the table.

Everyone else eats and then they get theirs when needed.

    That's not Steph.

Do you think that those players would have continued to play the same way if they had Steph's perimeter shot?

    Maybe only Nash.

He had a bit of range and he had the green light to launch.

And that's kinda why I don't care much for the "Steph is not a true PG". He is a true PG. He is a true PG who is also one of the greatest shooters in the history of the league, maybe the best.

no, someone 6'9", who can play any position on the floor, doesn't fit the typical mold of point guard. that said, he epitomised the position.

    Perception is reality.

For those of us that are dug in on what we " THINK " constitutes being a pg means......nah.

It's like the endless Jordan vs. LeBron vs. Kobe debate....

    What constitutes being a " Rookie ".....

You will never get 100 % agreement on the topic.
