At Duke, you perform and go 1st round or you're gone.

If Duval comes back, then Coach K would have lied to Tre Jones about him being the starting PG. In any case, its hard to see Coach K even giving Duval the chance to start seeing how badly he played.

Trent would have to fight with Barrett and Reddish for minutes.

The only other option was really to transfer.

Trent staying would have been awesome as he was Duke's most consistent shooter from three, but there was just no way he was staying.

I mean, expansion of the NCAAT would be beneficial to the ACC, so not really.

68 is too many as is.

I mean, the play in games are OK, but I could totally do without em.

64 is just such a perfect #. Don't know why they screwed with it.

The bubble is pretty weak @ 68. It'll be downright terrible at 72.

The TV contract with Turner may not exist without the expansion to 68.

Screw it. If they're not going back to 64 and going to have 68 just go to 72. That sounds better than 68. I could live with 8 play-in games. That's right...play-in games. It's not the tournament until 64 remain. I'd have all 16 teams as at-larges. No automatics. That means your Radfords and LIU Brooklyns are locked in as 16-seeds.

(9)--Alabama (19-15) vs Oklahoma St (19-14)
(9)--St Mary's (28-5) vs USC (23-11)
(10)--Notre Dame (20-14) vs Marquette (19-13)
(10)--Louisville (20-13) vs Butler (20-13)
(12)--St Bonaventure (25-7) vs Middle Tennessee (24-7)
(12)--Syracuse (21-13) vs UCLA (21-10)
(13)--Nebraska (22-10) vs Vermont (27-7)
(13)--Western Kentucky (24-10) vs Boise St (23-8)

It's just another way for the NCAA to make more money and we get to see more games and bet on them

This is a pretty spot on article IMO. I always thought the biggest loss off this past year's team was losing Trent Jr. early based on who they have coming back and bringing in. He would have been a natural fit at SG. They will have a weird looking starting lineup if it is what the article suggests. Williamson will be the 2nd shortest starter, but have to play PF because he can't shoot. It will make it interesting how they defend. I'd honestly probably go super small with a starting 5 of Zion, Barrett, Reddish, O'Connell and Jones. I just don't think Bolden is that good.

I like Bolden because he protects the rim, and he's huge. He's a space eater in the paint. And if Duke can play any resemblance of m2m he's the absolute best hedger Duke has on defense. On offense he's getting better and better around the glass and a decent rebounder to boot plus he hits free throws. He isn't going to average a double-double for sure, but he does a bunch of other stuff Duke won't have trying to play all these Freshmen.

douggie, Living on tobacco road myself in Raleigh and being so old that my Christmas present use to be tickets to the Dixie Classic in Reynolds Coliseum and going to ACC Tournaments which were all played in Reynolds Coliseum once upon a time I've got a couple of questions for you with you best guess:

1/ How much longer will the legend, Coach K, continue to coach?

2/ Who will be his replacement when he decides to hang it up?

Welcome to the Hoop @tomcat1 ; to answer your questions I'd need to be Nostradamus

Coach K is still coaching and has no immediate plans to retire, so this gig could last several years, at least it makes him feel younger I'm guessing

But to his successor; that's the $$$$ Million dollar question which has to be determined by a number of talented coaches and their own situations and whether they want to follow K or forge their own way, but those questions are above my pay grade!

douggie, Thanks for the welcome! I realize the questions I asked you are impossible for anyone to answer at this point but I just thought you might have some guesses.

Being a lifelong Wolfpack fan we might have a chance if Coach K and Roy Williams were to retire at the same time although it looks like Virginia has a basketball program that is going to be solid for a long time. I do cheer for Duke when my Pack is not involved but there is just no way I can cheer for the Tar Heels.

Cameron has got to be the best home court advantage in all of college basketball and something tells me that you have been one of those Cameron Crazies at least a few times in your life.

I've been to Reynolds and Carmichael too! Yep, Cameron is a special venue for sure, and I've been many times dating back to the 70's. Keatts is only 45 and looks to have the Pack moving in the right direction. It seems all he needs is time.

UVA is on solid footing with Bennett. Glad he has the worst upset ever in NCAA Tournament history as I felt certain Duke would eventually gain that honor.

And I don't believe Duke success goes away when K retires. And for certain that will depend on K's pick to follow him. I also cannot cheer for Chump Hill. That's a "no-brainer" for me!

douggie, I agree with you that Duke's success will not go away once Coach K retires but I don't think they will be on quite as high a level as they have been with Coach K which is normal for any program that loses a hall of fame coach. I guess all of this remains to be seen.

After several bad hires by NC State I certainly hope that Keatts is our man but after over a quarter of a century of heartbreak it's hard to get too excited yet. What memories Reynolds brings back to me because as a kid I even sold popcorn walking up and down those concrete steps pausing many times to hear the roar of the crowd when my Wolfpack would score. As I got older I was even there to watch David Thompson score his number #44 against Maryland in what is arguably with best championship game in ACC Tournament history.

I'm just curious, are you all Duke basketball or do you also get into Blue Devils football? I think you have a great head coach in football who overachieves in recruiting the best possible high school talent he has to select from with the academics level being so high at Duke. As a lifelong Redskins fan I love Crowder who came out of Duke.
