You could not trade Kuzma and Deng for an expiring contract.

I think Ingram can and will be a good to very good player---- but- as of right now--- and you never know going forward so I am not going to definitively limit the guys ceiling at the age of 21 or 22 or whatever he is--- but he does not look like a Tier 1 guy like a Porzingis or Kyrie or Wall or Tatum (maybe), or Booker or Embiid or Simmons or RW etc.. ---- maybe he is kind of near the bottom of the next tier with guys like Jokic or Wiggins or Beale or Jaylen Brown, Aaron Gordon etc..

Ingram is young. He needs to bulk up still if he is going to be force in the NBA.

But that doesn't mean he can't. His shooting improved significantly this year. It's reasonable to expect that continue to improve. Put about 20 lbs of meat on the bone and he could be more of a force in the paint which could make him a real threat.

You need to adjust your tiers or make an extra one.

Booker gets buckets and will be an elite scorer.

But, I'm not taking him over Jokic....

Shit, I'm not taking him over Spida either.

I guess it's a matter of preference.

But, I'd rather have the Next Arvydas Sabonis or Dwayne Wade over the next Reggie Miller/AllanHouston.

* sorry UCLA homerism*

Lots of great shooters out there. Not nearly as many players that create their own shot.

Back in the Reggie Miller/Allan Houston days, good 3 point shooters were hard to come by. Not today.

Look at the Sixers. They grabbed 2 highly competent 3 point shooters off the scrap heap in the middle of the season. And they are excelling because the Sixers have have guys that do create their own shot and can get them wide open looks.

Utah with Ingles too.

Ffs, he got cut by the Clippers and they got him for close to the minimum.

He parlayed that into a nice 4yr/52 mil contract.

On a side note.....

I bet the buyout market becomes a point of contention this Summer.

It would seem that TLF is walking back his original proposal "Kuzma, Ingram, Deng for Leonard". Well not so much walking it back as saying that it won't happen because Pop wouldn't trade to the Lakers. Which is likely true but also misses the point.
That was more of a wishful thinking - I think the Lakers have already given up on that anyway - although I think the best thing would have been to buy him out even if it cost them the entire 36 million they will owe him and let it count for this year. IF they would be allowed to do that

I think the Lakers would be totally justified in saying they will hold court and not trade this year, but if they are going to go with one or two free agents and no trades - they need to resign Randle. Randle has played the center quite a bit - so they could move him to the center - and bring in Paul George if he remains interested in the Lakers who can forget about Leonard - Popovich is not going to permit him to come to Los Angeles in any trade whatsoever - that idea is dead on arrival.

Wiggy clearly hasn't seen him play. All of the skills are there on both sides of the ball. But, as you point out, he is too damn skinny. Because of that, he can be bumped off his spots easily, can have a hard time finishing at the rim against other teams bigs and defensively, it's extremely difficult for him to play in the paint.

I guess he was able to add some weight this past off-season (not that you could tell lol), but you're correct, he needs another 20 lbs.

It is my understanding though that two years ago - they knew that and understood that it would be a few years before he would have a bigger body - At his age - that takes a few years. Once he has added another 20 pounds of muscle - he is going to have the ability to drive to the basket without getting knocked on his soft ass:lol:

Some guys are skinny but have the frame to add on some lbs... other guys are skinny and lack the frame to really hold much more weight.

According to my visual inspection, Ingram appears to be in the latter category.

Anywho, with the potential shown by guys like Brown and Tatum this post season and all year long... I don't think Ainge and co. are looking to hop to it in order to put a package together to get Leonard.

If Kawhi is available I guarantee you that Ainge will make a move for him and at least one of those players will be included.

That's the thing... most folks have argued that it would take both Brown and Tatum to get Kawhi.

Here's how I think that scenario would play out:
  • San Antonio would demand both Brown and Tatum.
  • Boston would refuse to give both Brown and Tatum.
Ultimately, no trade.

I honestly don't know what Ainge would do if the Spurs asked for Brown and Tatum and nothing else.

Assuming that Kawhi has no long term health issues, one elite player > 2 very good players. Unless Brown or Tatum turn into another Kawhi, which is possible but not likely, then the Celtics may always be one of those teams that is always really good but always losing to other teams because they have better top end talent.

Now it is possible that Ainge decides that Kawhi is too much of an injury risk to make a move for him. But that is a different issue.

And, ultimately, this is all academic most likely as the Spurs aren't going to trade Kawhi.

It would probably take the C's giving up more.

C's already have top end talent... it's just injured.

That issue aside... I really, really like what I'm seeing from Jaylen Brown this post season. Guy has been a difference maker out there.

As an outsider: yes, I'm concerned about Kawhi's long term health at this point and that factors in to my thinking.

Agreed.

Either side, IMO, would have to be getting an offer too good to pass up... and neither side is likely to get or give that offer. Therefore, no trade.
