Goodell will do exactly what the majority of owners wants. He always has.
Or this whole thing was cooked up as a peace offering. Owners want it, Goodell is against it, Jerry has a sit down with Goodell and he sides with Jerry, they shake hands and the NFL is one happy family again.
Those lawyer fees the Goodell Contract committee racked up would have to have been racked up regardless of Jerry, yes those same Lawyers would have to have been involved anyway. The owners provided the ideas and input, the Lawyers wrote the contract.

I think you should amend it to: "Goodell will do exactly what the most powerfull owners want."

And I think there has been somewhat of a shift away from the likes of Jones and Kraft towards other owners. The powerbalance between owners has shifted away from the likes of Jones and Kraft.

So it's only if they feel like it?

Not buying it.

Are you buying that some owners wanted to go the nuclear route by forcing Jones to sell the team? They didn't have enough support for that, but they have enough support to do this.

No, I'm not buying your reasoning for Kraft not getting dinged.

Legal Fees for being sued? Again I'm fairly Jerry never sued the NFL or any owner over Goodell's contract.
According to what I'm hearing on the news, Jones fought the suspension of his running back and caused legal fees to be incurred by the league in getting Goodell's contract renewed. Not sure they could falsify that information.

Jones, didn't fight the suspension legally he supported Elliott in his fight.
The only LEGAL Threat Jerry made was over Goodells new contract.
I'm fairly certain that had Jerry did anything to aid Elliott or the NFLPA other than simply saying he thinks Elliott is right and a suspension isn't warrented the Cowboys could be facing Cap Violations.

I thought it was Elliott and the Players Assn?

Jones just expressed dissent.

Obviously dissent will not be tolerated.

Doesn't sound like it.

Sure sounded like it when Elliott was fighting it. All the stuff was coming from the Players Assn and Elliott. I don't recall Jones tossing in any funding.

He was madder than a wet cat for sure.

I'm sure more details will be forthcoming. The NFL doesn't hire stupid lawyers and if they think they have a case against Jones, they probably do.
