If I'm Kirk, I go to CLE in exchange for letting me make all the draft picks in the first 3 rounds in 2018 and 2019, and having final say in player acquisitions on the offensive side of the ball.

If this trade didn't happen and KC left we will be in far worst shape for the 2018 season. FACT!!! No pupeet here just common sense. Trading away Fuller does not trump SMith.
no we wouldnt we have a selection of keenum , bradford TB taylor mccarron , all of whom are just as good as check down charlie and we save the trade capitol allen puppet . you buy the company line every time puppet

Smith also has question Marks.

Dude I'm sort of trying to get on board with this move.. really. Its just hard to reconcile we gave up what we did, just to most likely stay even.

Yes, he does. But of all of the guys on that list, including Smith, I think he might give us the best chance to maintain what we have. Somebody like Bridgewater or even McCarron May turn out to be something special... or complete duds. Keenum no thanks. He is KC Lite. Tyrod is probably more like AS Lite. Bradford...nope, one more knee injury away from being done. Smith is the safest pick out of the bunch.

I think that may be what the FO is thinking. Go the safe route for the next couple years, then draft someone next year or the year after that has the potential to be special. Let him marinate for a couple years under a veteran. Like Rodgers and others have done.

Tell you what, I'm going ot try and tone down judgement on this thing until

1. I see the contract numbers for Smith
2. I see what else we do in FA
3. Yea also see what Kirk ends up getting in comparison

While I do think at some point Kirk decided he just wanted out unless the money was right. I still think the approach the FO took was all wrong. And I don't mean just the last two years. I know people saying Kirk wanting them to SHOW they wanted him is over rated. But compare how we handled this to say the Raiders or Lions last year. You could not see the respective teams front offices without the first and last words out of their mouths being how much they wanted their QBs and they would make it happen.

Alex Smith had a career year. I would say it is his first good year of his career from an individual point. It only took him five years in KC, league leading rusher, second best TE in football, and google Tyreek Hill Dallas.

Wise choice shark, it is done. As I said a couple of other times I will root for him but should he suck and Cousin's shines .... :lm: we send the village people after Bruce and Dan. Truthfully I think they could have acquired Brady and still found a way to screw it up.

Good point!! It is one that this board really hasn't talked about...Why it bothers people so much that they gave up as much as they did to make the trade.

So, here it is in a nutshell, The upsetting part of all of this is that they got little or nothing for Kirk. Make no mistake Kirk was/is a commodity league wide, even if we grant every evaluation of him ranging from decent to damned near elite the return on that value as it stands right now is a compensatory pick. There's an awfully big disparity between what a trade would have netted and what's gotten if/when he becomes a free agent.

I know that there were posters here holding out hope that a LTD could have been reached, but that sort of hope serves no purpose when reality finally sets in, as it now has, for those opposing the few of us who insisted upon trading him a year (or two) ago.

Imagine, without factoring in WHO will be spending the draft capital, what such a trade would have bought this team. Beyond that, this trade for Smith, would be a lot more palatable, to almost everyone. While there's still a very slim chance that Washington can get more for Kirk, I personally think that there's not one person in the front office with stones enough to pull it off. So, we're apparently stuck with little compensation for Cousins and because of it, a pissed off group of SportsHoopla posters.

You noticed my little play on words. The Village People kind of remind you of Redskin FO, right? I can kind of see Bruce in leather dancing for Danny while Danny wears his war bonnet.

ESPN is reporting that the Skins are seriously considering placing the franchise tag on Cousins to maintain his rights and orchestrate a trade for more than the compensatory pick they will get if he leaves via FA.

This is a potentially risky move, but I think it makes sense. There is enough serious interest that KC will garner trade offers over and above the 3rd rd pick (maximum) we get in 2019. However, this is all contingent upon KC signing the tag. IF he doesn't, or delays it, the skins cannot trade him and the $34 tag price will count against the Cap, strictly limiting what the Skins can do in FA. What would be interesting is that if he does sign it, the skins have the ability to offer either KC or Smith as trade bait.

...And to think, I literally wrote in a post yesterday that I didn't believe that there was anyone in our front offices that had the stones to do this. If it actually happens, I'll gladly admit that I was 100% wrong about that!

BTW: this also could be a sign that there was an agreement with Kirk and his people to do this. We shall see!!

OMG I hope we do this. That would be the funniest thing I have ever seen. We would have over 50 million in cap on two QBs.

Who would we start if we can’t trade KC? I am sure Alex would love to back up KC after signing his extension here. Realistically, I think KC would be the back up to not piss off our future QB. I can see KC all season smiling and making 35million as a backup.

That brings us to poor Colt McCoy. Need I say more?

I would think if we couldn't trade KC (which I find really hard to believe), we could still trade Smith. I think the only way that we couldn't trade KC is if he balked on signing the Tag or if he let it be known to certain teams that he would not sign and LTD with them if traded to them, thus limiting the field of suitors. But realistically, if we can trade him for better than a 3rd in this upcoming draft, its a win for us. And I bet we could get Denver or the Jets or Buffalo, or Jax to cough up a 1st.

It's all about him signing the tag first though, right?

As long as he signs the tag, the redskins can do whatever they want with him. Presumably, a new team wouldn't trade for KC until they had a LTD worked out with him.

Also presumably, KC would recognize this as yet another (shitty) "business decision" from the Skins, and sign the tag. There'd be literally no reason not to: he can't negotiatie with other teams - if it's the exclusive tag - and if he waits too long, there will be fewer teams that need qbs.

The ONLY reason for KC to NOT sign the tag quickly, is to screw with the Redskins free agency questions. Which he COULD do, but that isn't exactly in character for him. Plus, it wouldn't exactly garner good will among potential employers.

A "business decision," is what it is....
