So if a defender doesn't know where the ball is at (back turned) and makes contact with a WR before the ball gets there, it's not a flag?
Is this only in the NFL?
The defender isn't the one who initiated the contact, the receiver did because the ball was underthrown.
As I said early, if the ball isn't underthrown and the receiver doesn't slow down and the defender makes contact, then it would easily be DPI.
But in this case, the receiver slowed down and near stopped, so it's incidental contact and not "clear intent to impede".
