BAMA special teams coach needs a big raise. Saban gets a lot of credit and deserves it, but how many big games has the special teams come up huge? Drake in the natty 2 years ago. So many times they do this. Force turnovers, etc.
If only we had a kicker:sigh:

Yeah, well trust me he is getting paid. Saban is one of the few coaches that puts his best athletes on Special Teams and I think that makes a huge difference. Not often to see a punt blocked by a teams #1 RB and only 1,000 rusher from the previous season.

Amen. I can't remember a time Alabama has gotten so few points with all the times we had the ball inside the 20. FSU's defense is absolutely Elite.

I was going to say during the Kick 6 game, but I am a better man than to bring that up.

Ha - I was there, but I have purposefully blocked that game from memory. Outside of the last play, and Coopers 99 yard TD reception, the rest has left the hard drive.

Worst father's day present ever.

Haha - it's all good.

Cheers - While our LB depth is cut short now, I wish Francois would somehow recover quickly and play again soon. It's a shame that kid is out.

It's not like you had two TDs and a redzone possession taken away by ridiculous offensive pass interference calls that weren't even close to offensive pass interference

Both teams had defenses that were taking over the game, Florida State doesn't make those two terrible special teams gaffes and they might have won that game

Yeah, that would have been the Colorado St vs Colorado game.

IMHO you are not going to be hurt minimally by the linebacker injuries. From what I have read over the years, Coach Saban has always cross trained backers and Lord knows the talent is there. The only real concern is probably loss of leadership but I have no idea who is stepping up to the starter spots. If they are upperclassmen leadership should not be an issue.

I hate to see anyone injured. I have struggled about 30 years with a devastating knee injury and would not wish that on anyone. Plus practically all college ballers have shown dedication and work ethics that are incredible so they have my respect. No matter what uniform they wear. Big Al, on the other hand .... :D:D:D

We are definitely the deepest team in the country, but we did lose a LOT of leadership on defense.

One of my favorite quotes is, "leadership is an action, NOT a position". Coach Saban is one of the best at establishing this principle in the team. IMHO some communication issues may have to be worked out this week but overall there will not be a long term effect with leadership.

It's because the QB underthrew the ball. If that ball is about 2 feet higher/further thrown, it's probably a TD and if there was still contact like that, it would have be pass interference.

It's borderline, I wouldn't have complained if it was called. But that's the reason why it wasn't IMO. Again, higher up and it gets called if not a TD. But the ball was underthrown, your guy had to slow down for it and contact happened as a result, so no call.

I'm not going to go back and forth on that call. It was a bad call. Under thrown or not, the defender had his back to the ball and never saw it or made a play on it, along with making contact with the WR before the ball got there.

That was a huge no call.

No dog in this fight and didn't see the game and don't care who won but I did Youtube that play and the Bama defender didnt turn around at all and contacted the WR. Thats a penalty every time and the ball being 2 feet underthrown doesn't mean you can defend like that. Watch the last two min of last years Rose Bowl and you see Penn St defenders do the same exact thing twice and get called.

This isn't the NFL. College football rules allow for face guarding. You don't have to turn your head, but turning your head will allow you to get away with more contact than without.

You also have to have an "obvious attempt to impede", which there was not for the reasons I mentioned - the ball underthrown and the reciever slowing down to adjust to that. It's incidental contact at that point.

Not by college football rules.

I think it was a PI, but in college, the CB does NOT have to look back and locate the ball. So that argument is void.

So if a defender doesn't know where the ball is at (back turned) and makes contact with a WR before the ball gets there, it's not a flag?

Is this only in the NFL?

Let's talk about Pass Interference • r/CFB

Here's a good read by an actual NCAA ref who explains OPI and DPI a good bit.

Some highlights:

There is no five yard contact zone in college football. The defense can initiate contact with a receiver as long as the receiver has not reached the same yard line as the defender. Continuous contact is illegal.

Most people apply that NFL rule to college football, it doesn't apply.

There must be contact to have a foul for DPI. Things like "face guarding" which constitute DPI at other levels do not count in NCAA.

Again, face guarding is legal in college football, you do not have to turn your head.

There must be obvious intent to impede. If the DB and WR are running and get their feet tangled, it's not a foul.

And here is the reason DPI wasn't called. The reciever slowed down and initiated the contact, not the defender.

I have to disagree with this interpretation. Either way we made mistakes to lose later in the game. A flag there however does change things.. Does BAMA come out and still play great D? Of course
