So if a defender doesn't know where the ball is at (back turned) and makes contact with a WR before the ball gets there, it's not a flag?

Is this only in the NFL?

The defender isn't the one who initiated the contact, the receiver did because the ball was underthrown.

As I said early, if the ball isn't underthrown and the receiver doesn't slow down and the defender makes contact, then it would easily be DPI.

But in this case, the receiver slowed down and near stopped, so it's incidental contact and not "clear intent to impede".

There must be obvious intent to impede. If the DB and WR are running and get their feet tangled, it's not a foul.

I have to disagree with this interpretation. Either way we made mistakes to lose later in the game. A flag there however does change things.. Does BAMA come out and still play great D? Of course

What about the 3 bad calls/no calls that lead to that play that would have benefited Alabama? Do those count? It could have easily been 17-7 going into the half.

So the WR ran his route and at the goal line he stopped and jumped forward to initiate contact? I disagree. The WR's momentum continued into the end zone. Did he slow down a bit to try to catch the ball? Yes it's his right to do that

Obviously they were not as blatant as the PI call. Like I said, we lost and I don't like blaming refs. Just think that was a huge blow to FSU

Must have missed that one. Imagine that

No reason to go back and forth on the refs. You all won.

I just showed you how the PI call was correct and why, so how can a good no call be blatant? Blatant was the hold on Ridley that did get called to save a TD.

The bogus holding call was pretty blatent to me, but the defender pulled him down to make it look like he got tackled. Shit happens, but it was still a bad call that took Alabama from a 20 yard gain and a first down to a 10 yard loss giving up like 1st and 20 or some shit like that.

Ok, then on 3rd and long on that same drive - the long part a result of that bogus holding call - our QB has his head jerked by a face mask. Didn't get called, would have given Alabama a first down to continue that drive.

If either of those calls are right, FSU doesn't get the ball to finish the half.

Then you have the PI FSU did get that wasn't PI on the same drive that leads up to that play.

We can go back and forth all day. Ain't changing anything. It's ok to disagree and there's probably plenty of penalties that were probably missed.

Midway through the game it was actually nice because I didn't see flags every other play - so it's obvious they let them play.

I just like debating the rules.

It's kind of like the pick/rub and OPI. It's a very fine line between them and the small technical parts are what matters, even if contact happens in both.

@4down20 Did you see the PI/review of Targeting on the Purdue DL?

I still don't understand that one.

Check out at about the 1 min mark. Didnt turn head around and ball slightly behind. They say exactly what you say isn't PI. The receiver was working back to the ball and the defender doesnt know where it is and prevents him from catching it.

USC got the benefit of a bad call, let me find my shock face.

I'm surprised you even brought this up.

btw, the ball on that one was not underthrown, it's not the same. The contact was light, but the defender extended his arms out to make contact.

What part of my original post “IMO the best team won” do you not understand?

Maybe, it would be easier to understand in Taliban? Here you go.

If you dont know where the ball is and you contact the receiver before the ball gets there it's PI. What planet have you been on?
