Lmao at celtic fans getting their panties in a bunch about a 2nd round pick three years from now. You have no idea what pick that will end up as. Saying it is a top 40 pick for sure is pretty stupid to say the least
Kinda painting with a broad brush here off of one comment from @The Q .

And to echo what another poster said: I don't care about the pick, not really... it's the principle of the thing. I would have been 100% ok with Ainge and co. telling Cleveland to F off.

But in the grand scheme of things: sure, it's only a far distant 2nd rounder... not a big deal... and ultimately I'm glad the deal went through and we can move on.

I hate Danny Ainge.

I hope this blows up in his face.

Stupidity and bad process should never be rewarded.

because they took the agreed upon week to do their due diligence on one of the biggest trades in NBA history?
Stop and think what they put IT through.

They leaked rumors that he was basically damaged goods. IT is coming up on a huge pay day next off-season, potentially... and they left him twisting in the wind on this for about a week.

All to get an extra 2nd rounder in 2020.

Take off the homer glasses... this is a crappy way to deal with players.

I gotta say it again- as I said it last week

considering the Cavs lack of leverage- i thought that KI could have been dealt for something like Wiggins and cap flotsam- or Bender and Bledsoe- or Middleton and Brogdon obviously---- and the Cavs would get MAYBE, if they were lucky- 70 cents on the dollar- if not less.

This trade is at LEAST 90 cents on the dollar- if not more.

but it both shocks me and gladdens me that the Cavs were able to find a deal like this- esp. considering that the Celtics would not give up the Brooklyn pick for George or Butler who I consider both better players than Kyrie-- and on top of that to get Crowder, a 2nd rounder, Zizic, and Thomas is far and up and beyond what I could have imagined them getting considering their bargaining position.

Thomas of course has the very real health concerns- but with a competent backup like DRose- if Thomas has to sit out for November, and maybe December- that should be okay. Mo Williams started for the Cavs for over 2 months while Kyrie was recovering from his knee injury--- and Rose is better than an ancient Mo Williams.

The playoffs are what matters. Hopefully Thomas will be fully healthy, and ready to make the deepest playoff run of his career. We know he will be supremely motivated as he will be in a contract year and was stabbed in the back by a Boston front office right after they used him to recruit and lobby for them. Little did he know that his recruiting and lobbying and extolling of the Celtics organization would lead to his own demise there.

oh yah

and he gets to play with LeBron. :thumb:

Ainge has made great trades before that were initially looked upon in a less favorable light.

Let's see how this plays out.

Not sure that's true.

It's usually a clear win for him, the question is a matter of degree.

Even getting 4 1st rounders for 1-2 years of KG and PP (plus the lowering of your own pick).

I do like that he tries to get a ton of 2nd rounders. It gives him options. Like trading 2 seconds to get that clippers pick.

This is $1.50 on the dollar.

The rookie GM took Danny to school.

lets assume Wade ends up in Cleveland Shumpert gets dealt- because- its likely to happen:

Isiah Thomas vs. Kyrie Irving

Jr Smith vs. Marcus Smart

LeBron James vs. Gordon Hayward

Tristan Thompson vs. Marcus Morris

Kevin Love vs. Al Horford

Wade, Korver, Rose, Green, Frye vs. Brown, Tatum, Yabusale, Baynes, Rozier

even if he's right, it's still bad process.

you don't pay $1.50 for $1.

That just means you have no surplus.

Kyrie has to be a top 10 player for Danny to not lose the deal.

they should be closer--- but the Celtics still need: (i) serious front court help, (ii) someone that will be more than roadkill to cover LeBron, and (iii) more floor spacing.

they still have assets to accomplish those goals. It will be interesting to see if Danny decides to make another deal to make up for those deficiencies- or if he is happy to just put his tail between his legs and wait LeBron out.

i asked this already:

i heard marcus morris holds lebron to the lowest PPG of any perimiter defender in the nba.

anyone confirm this?

his deal here makes a LOT of sense if thats true

they will beat cleveland if they face off in the ECF
I dont see it.

If they put Baynes on the floor to help their rebounding Love will destroy him. Tristan Thompson is basically the perfect matchup/defender for Horford.

the Celtics 3 pt shooting is not very good and that lack of floor spacing will be more important than you think.

the Celtics bench is incredibly young and untested compared to a veteran battle tested Cavs bench.

and - most importantly- the Celtics have absolutely no answer for LeBron. Its not like Crowder was a GOOD answer for Lebron- but at least he is one of the better guys in the East that can at least not get Marcelleus Wallace'd in Pulp Fiction against the King. LeBron will make Tatum and Brown squeal like a pig.

Now who guards LeBron? A 20 year old Jaylen Brown? a 19 year old Jayson Tatum?

Hayward could try but it will effect him on the offensive end dealing with the L-Train.

as presently constructed- it doesnt even seem to be the Celtics ultimate goal to beat the Cavs this year.

If they use some of their remaining assets to bring in a legitmate front court player, a 2 that can shoot a 3, and someone that you can throw against LeBron with at least some expectation of slowing him down a little- it could get interesting

as presently constructed- the Cavs rebounding, 3 pt shooting, and having LeBron are big enough advantages to where Boston would have to pull off a major upset for it to happen.

i was right:

Here’s one reason Celtics fans should be excited about Marcus Morris

By some measures, Morris was the NBA’s best defender of LeBron James during the 2015-16 regular season. According to ESPN’s Tom Haberstroh, James averaged just 20.5 points per 100 possessions when defended by Morris — his lowest average against any defender in the league that season.
so wait a minute--- what is your ideal Celtics starting lineup?

Because Morris plays PF if i am not mistaken.

What are you gonna have Marcus Smart rolling to the basket with Tristan Thompson? Or guarding Love or Frye on the 3 pt line?

while thats happening is Horford going to be guarding Love on the perimeter? Can you imagine the hole in the middle of the defense? IT will be able to walk to the rim even if he just has 1 leg.
