So this is the purpose of the BS Thread...

One thing I've never posted about myself is that, along with classical music, I enjoy listening to modern movie scores. It's especially nice to have in the background when trying to study or read. The best modern classical-style music these days goes where the only money for it is: Hollywood. Some of my favourites are the obvious ones like John Williams (Schindler's List work was great), Thomas Newman (particularly Meet Joe Black), Hans Zimmer & a few other usual suspects. But I stumbled upon a piece I've never heard before I couldn't help but sharing (in case anyone else likes that kind of thing). It's the 9th track on the Perfume - The Story of a Murderer soundtrack composed by Sir Simon Rattle. I wouldn't have shared it except it's a rarity I've never seen listed among some of the best modern movie scores; so enjoy if you like this stuff:

Sick- music aside, have you ever seen Perfume? I saw it at a sneak preview in LA before it was released. At the time, I declared it the worst movie I had ever seen. Before that, it was a tie between Universal Soldier 2: The Return and Sorority House Massacre 2: Nighty Nightmare. I stand by my assessment of Perfume. It was awful on so many levels.

I saw part of it a long time ago. You're right; it's really, really bad.

The only thing I ever say about that movie is that I kind of look a little bit like the main character (or at least he's the closest Hollywood actors have come to looking like me). And that's weird 'cause I think he's British; but maybe he has some Italian blood.

The worst movie I've ever seen (omitting low-budget B movies) has to be Summer of Sam. I couldn't even finish it. It was like watching a dog throw up for an hour before I couldn't watch any more. It wasn't quite as bad of a movie as Batman and Robin, but it was just so annoying to watch it gets the nod for my worst film experience.

I love the soundtrack though. Especially the track I posted.

Apparently, NFL players don't have to pay on their bets. This is like how Aaron Rodgers wouldn't wear Alex Smith's jersey when he lost to us.

Roddy White tweak to Mercer Bears-Duke Blue Devils bet OK with Atlanta Falcons fan - ESPN

White doesn't make any sense. You don't have to have a bet on both sides for a bet be there. Although, I do think it's silly to take a bet if there isn't a reciprocation. One could say that the White's ability to retweet to brag if Duke won is the bet on that side. Tickets on the other. He bet that Mercer would lose and he would pay if they won. It's a unilateral contract. Then, he says it is illegal to bet for NFL players. First, that means he violated the rule if that is the rule. Just because something isn't allowed doesn't mean you didn't do it. Second, that bet was on a non-NFL game. they might not be able to gamble on anything. In that case, he knows the rule and violated it.

NinerSickness: what's your favorite Simpsons episode? Top five? Favorite guest voice (one time, so not Sideshow Bob)?

My favorites are (Top Ten): Lisa a Simpson episode, Trash man episode (Steve Martin and Bono on same episode), Grimes episode, Camp Krusty, Bart's soul, Homer's smart, Homer becomes a clown, Homer's dying, Vegetarian Lisa (Beatles), and Who Shot Mr, Burns. Honorable Mentions: Getting Santa's little helper, Bleeding gums murphy dies, Monorail (Phil Hartman?), Springfield rebuild's Flanders house, Homer is dying, 3D Homer, Bart's girlfriend, Bart/Milhouse fight over comic, Bart and Homer conmen carneys, Marge dislikes itchy and scratchy, stunt devil Bart, I liked the Sideshow Bob episode that Niles from Frasier came on, Ms. Krabapple quits...

There's many more I forgot to list. What I listed sounds like a lot, but there are 550 episodes so far!

I used to love the Simpsons when it wasn't so preachy and pretentious (so a long time ago). At least South Park realized that was how they were getting and then made fun of themselves for becoming preachy and pretentious. I'm with you on the Frasier parody Sideshow Bob episode. That was probably my favourite one.

5. The Chili trip out episode
4. The one where Homer is a trucker
3. You only move twice "Oh the hammock district!"
2. The New York City episode
1. Frank Grimes

Favourite guest voice? Off the top of my head I'd have to say Peter Frampton. He really sold it as a Simpsons character unlike the Smashing Pumpkins, who just read their lines. That was actually Frampton right?

Favourite Simpsons quotes:

"I live in a single room above a bowling alley, and below another bowling alley."
"Hi Lisa! Hi Super Nintendo Chalmers!"
Greeting card with hot chick on it: "Wish you were her"
"Sentence fragment is also a sentence fragment." "Must conserve battery power."
"You don't have to tell it like it is Marge."
"I want you to get out of my store immediately and COME AGAIN!"
"What's that extra B for?" "That's a typo."

Did you know the monorail episode was written entirely by Conan Obrien? He was around when the Simpsons was REALLY funny. He was also writing for SNL when it was REALLY funny. I think he's the most underrated comic in my lifetime. He constantly cracks me up.

Do you think we would get more from him if he were a writer and not a talk show host? Or does volume count? His segments can be as good as SNL in the day and Simpsons.

"But Marge, I swear to you - I never thought you'd find out!"

I figured this was the best place to put this post.

Lately I've been finding the Niner board here at SportsHoopla is becoming very ESPN-like. It's flirting with becoming intolerable. I know this is the off-season, but rather than coming here and getting to read posts about draft prospects, I get to read bullshit arguments about Kaepernick's personality from a bunch of people who don't know him. Each thread seems to devolve into a ridiculous argument, with moderators jumping in and provoking and trolling, possibly with the intent of drawing someone in to calling them out so they can ban them.

I was trying to figure out why and I'm faced with a chicken/egg scenario. Has the board gotten so much worse because so many of the long term, quality posters (pozz, Ray, clyde, Mond, bingo etc) have all left, or have those guys left because the quality of the board has significantly decreased. I find it incredibly difficult to have an actual conversation on the board now because I know someone (Toby, Robotic, CaSick. . .) is going to insist on inserting himself with some BS which others will feel obligated to respond to.

Between SportsHoopla and ESPN I've been posting with a lot of posters here since 2000. I have never seen a collective with such a negative attitude toward the Niners prospects heading into a season. We're coming off NFCC/SB/NFCC the last 3 years. A good case could be made that the Niners, despite no Super Bowl, are in the running for "Team of the Decade" in the 2010s at this point. Yet "fans" seem to have a better opinion of the 2006 team than the 2014 team. I assume there will be a lot of posters from this board carefully studying the 2014 college season because many of you seem to expect us to suck for the foreseeable future.

The quality of discussion on this board has reached the point where I was tempted to just rant and put a bunch of people on blast because with no regard to whether or not I get banned because I really feel that with the quality of the board right now I wouldn't be missing anything. But I'm an optimist and believe that this board can get back to the quality it used to have, and we will witness some discussion worth being a part of again. But right now that doesn't exist.
