no one is giving us a 3rd rounder for a one year rental and a 3rd rounder is the comp pick if you simply let him walk

they own his rights they can tag or sign him long term and he more then likely will sign long term with the 49ers if that's where he wants to be

Yes. They own his rights. They franchise tag him and he becomes the richest QB in history at 35 million for a single season...BY TEN MILLION DOLLARS. His deal would pay him more than every QB in the league by more than every RBs highest salary except Leveon Bell...digest that.

Wait...there is the transition tag. That is only 28 million. Here people are bitching about him not being worthy of being the highest paid QB in the league but advocate paying even more than that. Wait, KC can sign a contract with another team and the Skins can match it. True, but he has to sign it, not just have it offered. If he doesn't sign with that team, he still gets 28 million from the Skins for a single season.

Here is a look into the mind of madness.

What Bruce is thinking is this.

Kirk does well this year, but decides he doesnt want to stay in DC and makes that known,

The Niners suck... but not 1st over all pick, more like picking 8th-10th suck.

Bruce Tags Kirk any way, then trades him to the Niners for the 9th pick in the draft.

Bruce then trade the #9 pick (from the Niners) the #21 pick (our own pick) our 2019 1st rounder and our 2018 2nd rounder to move up to #2 over all.

We spend two months heading up to the draft convincing ourselves the #2 QB in the draft is a sure fire elite.

Draft day comes, we take the #2 QB in the draft......

And its 2012 all over, only we wont take another QB in the 4th round this time.

I don't think that's what happens. I think THIS is what happens:

KC does whatever he does. Probably pretty good. Doesn't matter, bc he's gone before the following season anyway.

KC gets transition tagged.

SF/Cle/Buffalo/LARams sign him to a monster deal.

Redskins DON'T match, AND don't get the 3rd round pick, bc they transition tagged him.

Redskins sign older, terrible qb after "having their sights set on Brees or Stafford" only to have Brees or Stafford actually signed by their not incompetent ownership.

Redskins sign awful free agent.

Redskins DON'T trade up in draft - they learned from their RG3 debacle - and instead draft a qb in the third round, RIGHT AFTER the main QB prospects are all drafted.

BA says, "Well, we really wanted XXXxxxxx, but he was picked only 12 picks before ours in the third round."

Team, aside from QB, gets better, but due to inconsistent qb play, Gruden fired.

New Coach.

Change of Offensive and Defensive "Systems."

Repeat.

IM seriously thinking Bruce fully intended to poison the well with his little press conference.

NO matter how the team does, Kirk is not going to want to be here.

And in the end I think Bruce did it for one reason..... he couldnt bear to admit Mike Shanahan was smarter than him when it came to talent evaluation.

Signing Kirk to the type of deal it would require, would all but admit Bruce failed in 2012. And we cant have that.
