Aren't you guys getting ahead of yourselves? He is signed through 2016 with the 2017 5th year option available. You have 2+ season to see if he can sustain his production before a long term commitment. And even then, you could tag him for 2018 & 19 into his age 30 season with no long term commitment.

I know it seems odd to an outsider. People on this board are all about overpaying overrated defensive lineman. Dont bother trying to bring common sense into the debate. That will only irritate them.

I guess so...

The aftermath from the Suh situation has you guys all twisted up.

People just wont accept that Suh was never going to sign here unless we were the highest bidder. Even then he may have still left.

Tagging players is a great way to piss them off and lose them. Maybe PFF will write about that one day.

For someone who knows so much about the NFL. I'd think you would know that most franchise tagged players end up agreeing to long term deals before the tag kicks in.

Justin Houston was tagged -- he signed a 6 year 101 million dollar deal
Demaryius Thomas was tagged -- he signed a 5 year 70 million dollar deal
Dez Bryant was tagged -- he signed a 5 year 70 million dollar deal

It doesn't take a genius to figure out why so many players who get tagged end up agreeing to a long term deal to avoid the tag. Maybe the Red Zone will show you a highlight clip on why that is.

And hats off to the Suh-led Dolphins -- they have over taken the Browns for dead last in rush defense. :dhd:

If the Toronto Argonauts offered him 20 million a year -- he'd be playing in the CFL. That is why I think it is fitting that he is now playing for a version of the Lions from his 1st few years in the NFL. By the time they find enough talent to put around him (as it will have to come thru the draft) -- he won't be anywhere near the player he has been.

You know my cheap ass does not want to pay anyone that kind of money. Ask me this time next year and if he is still averaging over 1 sack per game then the answer might be yes. Dude is a freak.

I'm aware of your dilemma Old Lion. It's understandable where you're coming from but a player like Ansah is very valuable to that defense.

I want to see 1 more year of similar production to this years myself before committing that type of money.

Get that checkbook ready, Martha.

having Suh mentoring Ziggy those first two years is what kick-started his rapid ascent this year.

Todd Gurley, Johnny Manziel players to watch on losing teams
3) Ziggy Ansah, DE, Detroit Lions (4-9)

Ansah is one of the most unusual players in the NFL, given how raw he was coming in as a rookie -- he didn't join the football team until his sophomore year at BYU, and he had just one full season as a starter -- and how successful he's been in Year 3, racking up 13.5 sacks, tied for second most in the NFL. That's just nearly double his sack total from last season (7.5) -- and he's still got three games to play. Ansah is an outstanding competitor with rare speed for a guy his size, and he's made huge strides in his pass-rushing technique. Many players need a sidekick to excel, but Ansah's thrived after the departure of All-Pro defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh last offseason. He's an amazing player.

Ziggy is just OK. Obviously, Suh is making him better from Miami this year.

How we going to have the cap space to re-sign Ngata if we don't?

The Ravens will be happy to take Ngata back if you want to keep Suh and don't have the cap space.
Or if you just want to give him up in general.
In fact, if they could send him out to Baltimore for Sunday's game, that would be great. :)

Hey, Ziggy was my guy when the rest of you said he'd bust. Never forget that.
