19 million to keep Ansah in Detroit for the next 5 years once his rookie deal is up. Do you pay him or let him go to Miami (or wherever)?

Seeing as the franchise tag this past year was 13 million, I believe, for DE's. Ansah isn't going anywhere, any time soon.

ouch. 19M ? he has come so far in such a very short span of time. IDK Swarm about that steep of a price but I do know I want him to stay. The next GM will have to pick up his 5th year option coming up before May 2016 and he will.

I guess when you consider it'll be for 2018 season that would seem about right price though when re-considering when that extension would take place. There should be another 30+M added at a minimum in salary cap raises between now and those three seasons.

He keeps going at this pace and the Lions might be forced to overpay from what some of us would say is too much or not enough. He is reaching elite status numbers. Need to see that more than one year. Knee jerk signings off of big numbers backfire at times. Stafford ring a bell?
I like having the tag option there to buy a extra season before dropping the money. Him having these stats with a below average unit, makes you question what he can do with better talent around him.

I will say yes. Two years from now having him locked up even at that price might be a bargain from what it might be 4 years from now. I'd be more comfortable in the 16-17 year avg. range I just don't want to see him leave also.

Tag him. Tag him twice if you want to.

Don't restructure him to sign Marshawn Lynch.

How we going to have the cap space to re-sign Ngata if we don't?

Mini-Millen would of let Ansah test the open market. Wait for Ansah to come crawling back to sign with the Leo's.

If we tag him it'll probably be $22 million a year the next season

Me being a smart ass Stomp. JJ Watt was worth it in his mind. Need to see where he stands on this now before he speaks differently once it's done.

We must keep Ansah at all costs. Losing Ansah after losing Suh would be devastating to this organization. Let's hope the next HC builds around him and doesn't run a D that doesn't suit him.

Instead of picking up his 5th year option, extend him now, and offer him 17 a year. To me, that was Suh money. If they had extended Suh a year early, and offered him 17, he'd still be a Lion.

With Suh the first time they were negotiating the biggest offer i saw reported was 13 and change per year if Mayhew had made him a real offer at that point 14.5 or 15 maybe the deal may have got done, but instead he kept proposing low ball offers that Suh knew he could beat if he waited. As far as Ansah goes he probably waits for Von to sign a deal then goes after something similar.

Turning the table....

Imagine the comp pick when he leaves!

Yes, I can really get used to these comp picks. Unless it turns into another Alex Carter.

Where have I spoke differently? JJ Watt is the best defensive player in the NFL and IMO, it isn't even close.

Do I think Ansah is worth 19 million a year right now? No. Could he be worth that in the future? Yes. It isn't something the Lions have to worry about for a couple years though, as they can tag Ansah. So for once, Detroit holds the cards in negotiations, instead of the player (Suh, Calvin, Stafford).

Tagging players is a great way to piss them off and lose them. Maybe PFF will write about that one day.

Aren't you guys getting ahead of yourselves? He is signed through 2016 with the 2017 5th year option available. You have 2+ season to see if he can sustain his production before a long term commitment. And even then, you could tag him for 2018 & 19 into his age 30 season with no long term commitment.
