Has there ever been as long a delay between league championships and starting the WS as there as this year? Seems to me that MLB is once again taking a hit in the money ball race by not having begun the series sooner.

They set all the Game One starts before the playoffs begin. They assume the earlier series' go 7. What concerns are there for not changing the start-dates on the fly?

1) TV scheduling. This, I think, is the MAIN reason. FOX wants to know what days their roster will be FUBAR'd. Moving the World Series up would cause more havoc on the schedules than benefit for FOX. Without $$$, there is no baseball.

2) Travel considerations. I am not sure how this works, exactly. Does MLB block out rooms for the NL team in AL cities and for the AL in NL cities going into the LCS? I figure it is something like that. Otherwise, getting the 100-or-so rooms for the team 2 days in advance could be quite problematic.

Makes sense. Still, from a marketing point of view, still seems to me that MLB ought to "strike while the iron is hot"

Agree. And the new commish really should look into it. But I am not sure what is possible.

Maybe have two possible start dates, dependant on when the longer LCS ends? That adds other, competitive issues, though. Variables in the foundation at this time of year, I think, opens up a whole new crop of problems.

When will the league figure out that bullies are a key weapon?

Bullies are the current moneyball value position.

Unless you're the Dodgers and you give $10 mil to Brian Wilson to suck for you for a year

The funny thing I heard today was this is the first time that team apparel shops in KC have had to offer fall /winter Royals gear such as hoodies, sweatshirts, long sleeve shirts, coats etc. They're not use to the Royals still be playing into the months of September and October.

They should get used to it. This team is young and solid.

A lot of people are getting whipped into a frenzy right now like this is now or never. Royals were trending hot late last year and made the World Series this year. They should be at least a playoff contender for the next few years at worst.

Some of the frenzy is simply how new this all is for KC fans, to them it feels like it's their one shot, out of the blue. Cardinals and Giants fans have gotten to see good teams for years now, it's less urgent. I know my stress level is way lower than it was in 2010.

Probably by 2018 KC will be used to multiple playoff runs, and will have a different attitude.

I mean, I get it. People thought that the Tampa Bay Rays had a great nucleus and they'd be making a lot of runs and they never got back. But the Royals are going to be back in the playoffs. The World Series is a different thing entirely so they should be nervous and happy but the Royals should be at least 'good' for the next few years.

Since 1985 (includes '85 Royals) eight teams have had home field advantage and needed to win games 6 and 7. All but the '03 Yankees were able to do so. So, historically, past "modern" WS teams in the Royals current position are 7-1. Being 2-3 and headed home has resulted in 7 Champs, 1 Runner-Up.

The last time a team lost a WS Game 7 at home was 1979.
