Arizona had a brief run in their "Desert Swarm" days. They had some crazy good defenses.
The good days.
Arizona was so good in the Fiesta Bowl, dealing the Hurricanes their first shutout loss since 1979, never allowing the ’Canes inside the 40 yard-line, that you wondered how any team beat the ’93 Desert Swarm.

Option no1. They were doing quite well for a few yrs. and looked to be the next great college football school, looks like they've fallen back and might not return anytime soon.

Yeah like beating both the PAC champ and the Bg10 champ in the Rose bowl n finishing 3rd in the country isn't good enough . Wouldn't that be peak of your run type of finish for the Ducks?

If coming in 2nd to CU is good enough for SC fans, that's fine. I'm not saying SC had a bad year, however, I'll wait til SC wins the PAC again (Hasn't happened since Carroll left) before saying they are back.

Did they have a realistic shot at Petersen? Just about everyone, USC included, came calling on Petersen and he turned everyone down until the Huskies were able to convince him to leave Boise.

That was the thing with Chip, he never really landed much in the way of 4 and 5 star guys. Oregon was typically middle of the road in recruiting during Chip's era. What he was very good at was finding 2 and 3 star guys who fit his system and played like 4 and 5 star guys in it.

I think that's where Helfrich failed. He wasn't nearly as good at finding those 2 and 3 star guys that fit perfectly into what Oregon does. So he ended up with 2 and 3 star guys that played like 2 and 3 star guys.

This isn't true at all. Chip regularly had top 20 classes.

USC beat Colorado and ended up ranked 3rd in the country. You kinda forget about that. USC is also projected top five for this season. CU had a nice year (forColorado) but USCs hickups at the beginning of the season prevented them from playing in the conference championship game but they beat both teams in that game and everyone and their brother had USC above both at the end of the season.
To be back USC has to continue to be a top team. Pete had USC in the top three or five (can't remember which) for eight straight seasons. If they do well again this season they are back.

SC had a a nice year. I'm just saying let's wait til they win a PAC 12 championship again before talking about their dominance.

USC fans could care less about the actual Pac championship. Its a stepping stone. If USC went to the playoffs ala Ohio State without winning the PAC every single USC fan wouldn't shed a tear. Teams that haven't wont the whole thing at all or just once make a big deal about conference championships. Here in LA it's the Clippers hanging division or conference banners while the Lakers hang NBA titles. SC was the best team in the conference last year when it was all said and done . Just a fact.

Can we talk about Oregon's dominance instead?

They'll always be one of those teams that's really solid, but just aren't allowed to sit at the big boy table.

True. Only countless conference titles, 25 Rose bowls, and 11 National championships.
SC isn't going to win the PAC this season either. UW is going to pump SC in the title game like a cheap $20 crack h0 at a Motel 6.

I forgot that Ducks fans are new to this football thing. A top 20 class when you are in a P5 conference is middle of the road.
