I believe Shark's point is that the 5M/year in cap savings wasn't worth what it took obtain it, that it is an overall value loss for the team (ala Cousins v. Smith).

What Dean refuses to realize is, if you saved $5M a year (which we didnt) and you are no better off (which we probably arent) You gave up on the player with a brighter future (we did) and it cost you another player with a bright future and another draft pick (which again we did and it did)...

Odds are it wasnt that smashing of a deal.

They did the trade NOT because Smith was this all fired great talent we could get for less. They did it to get out of a situation they didnt want to be in. And I think the Cap was the excuse they used, not the reason for it.

As of right now, we gave up

Kirk Cousins, Kendall Fuller and a third round pick

for

Alex Smith, Orlando Scandrick, and a million in cap space over the next three seasons while gaining 13 million in dead space in years 4 and 5.

Bullshit. We arguably gotten better at the QB position for less money. That is the way I look at it. The trade doesn't mean anything if AS plays well and wins. The deal is a team friendly deal. is the deal KC gave Minn a team friendly deal? NO!!!

If Smith plays the three years (which he will) he makes $71M
Cousins in the same three years will make $84M

84-71=13

13/3= 4.3

On average, we would spend $4.3M less per year on average for a QB who is 4 years older. Forget the player and pick we also gave up to SAVE this cap space. Saving money dont mean dick if you got a lesser quality product.

Actually its very team friendly. He accounts for 15.5% or less of their cap over the three year span, which is about the average for a franchise QB

Both players got what they were worth. Cousins is just worth MORE than Smith thats all.

Dont need to justify it. But since you asked, the Vikings will be contenders this year with Cousins.

The Redskins, overpaid for a QB just to try and maintain .500 football.

Actually its not an overpay if you read niner outlaw post on the deal. Team friendly. Sure KC should be a contender b/c of his team. If the Skins contend with the Vikes this year what does that say?

Any time you give up two extra players to get one guy, unless that guy WINS you a Super Bowl... its an over pay Dean. Right now this team is no better, and likely WORSE than the team that went onto the field last year. And you are spinning the bullshit that they should trade UP to get a RB?? If Smith needs vastly better talent to compete with the Vikings than what they gave Cousins last year.. .then to most people that would say... he isnt a better QB than Cousins.

the trade capitol means nothing if the QB succeeds. This team is better than last year already and should be healthier. You are trying to tell me this team doesn't get better with Barkley??? WOW!!!!

IM saying if Fat Rob was good enough last year, why do we need to over extend for a Stud RB now?? If Smith is as good as you say, then Rob should be fine right??

IM doubting the team and your level of sanity because they should have wanted to upgrade last year and instead trotted out Fat Rob, Doctson and Pryor. But NOW all of a sudden we need more dynamic proven talent, yet you want to sell me the line Smith is some how a better QB. IM doubting your grasp on reality because you were one of the main ones pimping the line that Cousins wasnt worth it because he couldnt carry the team, but NOW you want a roster that simply requires a Bus driver.

So yes, If Smith is a better QB as you claim, he shouldnt NEED a stud RB and Rob and Perine should be fine.

oh please. Get over KC and move on. So you ar saying we shouldn't never upgrade the team? lol. That is so ridiculous. I said Smith can be just as good or even better than KC for cheaper money. Lets see if it comes true. So if we have a winning season are you just going to point to the new additions and say well KC didn't have these guys. So childish Shark. Go been a Minn fan b/c you have no respect for this team. It shows in every post you make.

Nope... what I am saying is, if he is as good as or better, the team shouldnt NEED to trade away resources to put all powerful pieces around him. Its a move based in desperation to prove that moving away from Cousins was a smart move.
